wut?

I think you have your powertrains mixed up... Fiat has a 1.4L Turbo and Mazda has 2.0L and 1.5L naturally aspirated engines.

The 1.4L MultiAir Fiat has been selling for 7 years is more powerful than the 2.0L SkyActiv Mazda makes, so in terms of performance:

Fiat 1.4 > Mazda 2.0 > Mazda 1.5

Yep you're correct, I have the Mazda spec in my head.

Now whether it's a true fixed roof or just a hardtop and if it looks like Autocar think it might or like Autoblog thinks it might is another story.

At first I got really excited, but after thinking about it, I don't think it's something I would trade my twin for.

Weight with the coupe will probably only be a couple hundred less than the 86. Then you have only 2 seats, and less power than a stock 86.

The stock turbo is nice, but is it 40k nice for a coupe version?

Exactly.

Sure, both the ND and Abarth 124 are cool, but the closer they get in configuration to the 86 (Fixed roof 2+2 coupe), the more it's illustrated how well the 86 was executed at it's price. I wouldn't trade my 2013 FR-S for either car as well. My car is fun as hell, but I need that extra space. To me, they're all really nice lawns, but the grass isn't particularly greener.

So many cars...so little garage space.

That's the truth. A coupe Fiata is going to probably run 30k.

If they build a coupe 124 abarth, the frs is gone.

I doubt there is any truth to the speculation and rumors though.

I think Fiat isn't long for the US anyways. Since I leased my 500e two years ago, the two closest Fiat dealers have shut down. If Fiat can't make it in the SF Bay Area, they can't make it anywhere.

Eh, have you driven the 1.4L Multiair?

After 52.5k miles in an 86 and some seat time in another turbo I4 with cranked up boost, I'm a pretty big fan of the FA20. I figured I preferred NA powertrains prior to buying this car (one of the very few reasons why I didn't buy an Abarth) but at this point, on paper between the Fiata and Miata, I'd take the MX-5 every time.

Don't get me wrong, the MultiAir is great, one of the best powertrains I've driven, but for a fun sports car I'll take responsiveness over peak output everytime.

Besides, the MX-5 RF is taking deposits right now, Fiata coupe is all rumors.

I owned a 2013 Fiat 500 Abarth for 1 year and 22k miles. Traded it for the FRS. My FRS is currently back at the dealership with Toyota NA engineers staring at it for valvetrain issues on a stock engine after it spent 39 days at the dealership back in February/March this year for the same issue.

It wasn't terrible in the 500 Abarth, yes it's a turbo with lag, but it's got character. I genuinely enjoyed that car, except for the driving position which is what led me to trading it in.

For a C-Street class car, the Abarth 124 seems to have stiffer base antiroll bars and a taller 2nd gear. Both potentially slight advantages for Autocross.

I actually don't have any interest in the Miata. I'll keep the FR-S if it's between the FR-S and the Miata. The 124 Abarth, while essentially the same car with a different engine and suspension tuning, has character that will make the car more "special" or fun on the daily drive. Whether I would own two roadsters or not is another question, which is why I think a 124 abarth coupe would make the decision easier, especially if it's a practical hatchback style sloping roof like the renders.

Again, I don't think it'll happen, and I'll likely just keep enjoying the FR-S.
