I was making carbon fiber fishing rods for Fenwick back in the late 70's.
Most of them are still operating to spec if they haven't been stressed from mishandling.

If it's Japanese then it's probably made by Toray IIRC they are the largest CF manufacturer in the world.

That Hiace is probably the coolest van you can take your kids to school with.

Could be referring to the resin shelf life vs the actual carbon fiber fabric in the composite. The resin can get old and brittle from UV exposure.

That would not be shelf life. That is usage. Unless you are storing it in a tanning bed I suppose. Even the resins don't break down like they used to unless it is the cheap stuff. If painted or covered with an anti uv coating the stuff will last forever.

'Shelf life' was probably the wrong term to use, vs. 'lifespan' of a finished product. resins and pre-preg carbon fiber do have shelf lives (before the composite is laid up).

Don't forget Mitsubishi Rayon, they are pretty big as well.

Cool, if you were at Fenwick in those days you must know my old friend Dave Myers!

Probably. Don't remember a lot of the names from back then. Ron Brown was my main contact.
I was the midnight shift handyman making and repairing a lot of benches and racks, then machinery that broke down.
Spent a lot of time cutting brass mandrel pulling blocks on the lathe.

Might have been after I was there. I think Don Green was somewhere in upper management.
Only remember that because his daughter was in my class through school.
Afterwards there was a lot of brand thrashing to Fenwick-Woodstream and Sage for the manufacturing facility.
