TRD Puts Its Spin On Toyota's 86 Coupe for the Tokyo Auto Salon

This year, six different TRD-tuned models will make their way to this year's Tokyo Auto Salon that runs from Friday, January 13 to Sunday, January 15, highlighted by the C-HR "Aggressive" and "Extreme" duo, both of them featuring sporty body kits, custom wheels and plenty of other add-ons that might make you take notice.

14R-60 CARBON CONCEPT

This particular build was meant to further evolve the 14R-60 model which had a limited run of 100 units as a Toyota Techno Craft 60th anniversary model last year.

It comes with an extended spoiler lip, while reproducing the shape of the 86 TRD Griffon Concept's front bumper. Weight saving methods were also employed by building the front bumper and fenders out of carbon fiber.

This 86 is a rally concept vehicle, built in collaboration with Fumio Tahara, a multiple winner of the Japan Rally Championship. While it's not too much unlike the Griffon Concept from 2013, it is built for a more practical approach to racing.

RALLY!!!

I dig both. The street car has an Amuse S2000 vibe to it.

LOL Half the forum wants to fill the wheel arch but the rally crowd paints it to make the opening look even bigger than it really is!

I like both as well. However that splitter on the track model is giving me the creeps. Its got a chin only a mother could love.

The first car isn't new that's a 86 TRD 14R-60.

I don't think anyone said anything about the 14R-60 being new...but it's nice to see that they're showing off new dry carbon fenders and front bumper for it :happyanim:

Carbon only has a 5 yr shelf life (many applications), then starts to break down. So ultimately it depends upon application.

Return of the wheel gap !!! Should have 16" wheels then

No it doesn't. At least not since the mid 80s or so. Anything I can read on this?

I think you guys are right. It may have been carbon pre-90's , and depends upon application. It was just something I heard somewhere. ..in the wind of life
