What's funny is, you see the same arguments in the sport bike world. If your liter bike isn't putting down 190-200 hp with a total mass of 420 lbs it's considered crap- even though you need to be Valentino Rossi to be able to come close to using it all. 75% of liter bike riders would be far better off on a 600.

And yes those are real numbers- plenty of bikes putting out twice the specific output of our FA20 motors out there with 200 hp per liter and more.

How often do you have to change oil on those things? 1,500 miles?

Yep. I actually had an 09 Ninja 250 for about 7 months before enlisting. After getting stationed in OK and getting stable, I bought a '12 ZX6. It was a lot of fun, but people asked when I was getting a liter bike. I told them never, because a 600 is more than enough and until I can ride this bike to the absolute limits to where I'm being held back, I have no reason to go up.

Even though I loved the ZX6, the 250 was the most fun. I could just beat the piss out of it everywhere, and it was SUPER light. Felt like a bicycle haha

8000 mile interval on a Honda Fireblade, 7500 on a Ducati Panigale, but many people will cut that in half.

Remember the oil also does double-duty on a bike, as it also bathes the transmission and the stator on most bikes.

Exactly. It's way more fun thrashing a 250 at 9/10ths than a liter bike or even a 600 at 8/10ths- you're slower, but getting everything out of the package.

With those intervals I bet half of all liter bikes are still running their OE fill :P

That is why I get a lot of fun out of the 86 just as it comes. When you ride bikes that will do sub 3 second 0-60 and a 1/4 mile in 10.6 at 134 mph, or tops out at 160+ like I do, you have to spend a hell of a lot of money on a car to get anywhere near that.

But a well driven 86 on a mountain twisty- that is just as much fun as a superbike, IMHO, and, importantly, at a much slower pace.

Crazy to think his owned the car for over 30 years now. That's my dream with my 86

Also, I must say...I love how he was rocking the Fujitsubo exhuast...though since he changes his exhaust every year I wonder what he has now in 2017.

I get the same feels changing from ae86 to new 86. Feels so much faster! But my itbs tells my ears that my ae86 is way faster
