In the populated areas, there is just way too many cars on the road all the time to ever be able to use that power.

It's also annoying when people have cars with 300hp+ and still manage to only reach 70km/h when merging on the highway when your supposed to be merging with the flow of traffic. (100km/h)

I think it just has to do with "look at me...I have more horsepower....I have money....I have a big house with 6 bedrooms but only me and my wife live in it"

I agree. Horsepower is the measuring stick for many with cars. If you want the best, you need the most.
Manufacturers know many buyers want a car that gets respect and admiration for having the most impressive performance numbers.
Lots of horsepower junkie car buyers! Being able to actually use that horsepower has nothing to do with it.

I don't understand why it appears you aren't a fan of high horsepower when the guy in the video literally has a car with the same horsepower to weight ratio as a 300hp FR-S? Yes, that is a question I am asking.

When I am on the highway going the speed limit in the slow lane and I see someone trying to merge on the highway, I try to change lanes to the left for the guy or girl.

I still don't understand why people don't do this.
Worse yet are the people who try to overtake traffic in the far-right lane when there's an on-ramp with people attempting to merge as well.
I find it's usually a premium German sport sedan of some sort...

It's like Saturday night while on the 401 I saw 3 European sedans trying to fight it out on the collector lanes pedal to the metal; a C300, a B7 A4 and a B5 A4. I was thinking to myself, so that's what people find fun to drive?

This 100%. I have an STI and am more than content with the 300hp it has. I think people are just never satisfied. They're so fixated on the number "350" for the next STI, because that's what the Focus RS has. They seem to forget though, that even with a power, weight, and tire disadvantage, the performance specs between the two cars are still identical.

I can only give my car 100% throttle for ~5 seconds before I'm breaking the speed limit on 90% of the roads out here. The car has plenty of grunt to exploit gaps in traffic as well. The car feels great on track too. I have yet to find myself wanting more power on the street or track. There really isn't any need for more.

I'm not sure why so many people on the forums complain about the "lack of power" with the FRS (and WRX/STI). Over half the people that own them just slam them onto the ground to where they scrape on leaves. What good is an extra 150hp if the car can't even be driven at 40mph without blowing out the undercarriage as it is?

Because they don't actually own cars and adopt mediocre journalists opinions as their own.

I see that sort of thing and I'm just shaking my head.
Endangering other road users for a display of power that requires mashing down the right foot. Whoop-dee-doo.

They can't drive, and more importantly, they don't want to learn. A STI is more car than 90% of the population can handle as it is stock. They can never have fun in low powered cars because they don't know how to drive well enough.
