Something tells me that in Alaska they are already on Subarus and it would cost more than it is worth to ship them there from someplace they are not used.

Honestly that video was also what convinced me I should be fine with it in the snow too. Previously I drove an old Chevy S-10 pickup and rarely up put it in 4x4 mode and never had any real problems. And the thing that strikes me most about that video is stupid drivers in the snow is not just a local problem but happens everywhere where people should be used to snow and know better. But yea there is always somebody turned around on the side of the road or in a ditch that makes me question how they got that to happen.

[QUOTE=Shark_Bait88;2829829]Just find a used set of Bugeye WRX wheels!

^^Certainly would get them if they were easily available. I will keep looking in the mean time. On Craigslist it is either one wheel or one tire and I don't know I don't trust used tires much. Used wheels wouldn't be a problem. I bought one used tire which looked brand new and it failed on me when I was doing 80 mph on a highway!

@Razgriz I deleted my FB too

@Overdrive Those guys did help me too and I decided on FRS/BRZ coz of that. Good info. GT is the TG spelled backwards

I get that everybody doesn't get snow like we do but still find it hilarious that 2 inches of snow qualifies as a storm

Earlier Fly said that Subarus are very common there.
It is Alaska and snow tires are required.
If anybody is getting summer rims they will want winter ones for their own cars.

Assuming that they would be scarce was pretty safe in this case since it was a calculated statement not just an out of the ass comment. I never said not to verify anyway.

Thats why I am bummed, Subaru's being common there, the rims are not so common. Not on Craigslist atleast. Maybe because the demand is high for Subaru's and being winter, the used wheels might be more scarce in the town. But I am sure the new wheels wouldn't be hard to get.

Also on the topic of the OEM fitted 16" wheels. The Base GT 86 model in AU comes with these Enkei kinda watanabe vibe wheels that actually look really nice in the flesh. I think they were 16x6.5" with 205's. If I were ever in a position of needing winter tires, the OCD in me would compel me to find these for my winter set.

I would absolutely love to be able to get a set of these wheels, but importing them from a country that gets them is just too expensive. The shipping alone makes it untenable.

True, but there are always weird people like me that would rather have bright green wheels instead of the stock ones, or people who sell their cars, etc.

I agree. Where I live just had maybe 2 inches, and they shut down everything for 2 days. They complain about how it is the ice, not the snow that is the problem. What it really is about is the total lack of giving a crap to try and learn to drive with the conditions. Other NC people make fun of everyone because they cannot even drive in the rain. Or the dry, drivers down here make driving in Boston or New York look like a piece of cake. These people are nuts.

Holy balls! Get these, and I will be super jealous http://anchorage.craigslist.org/wto/5948125727.html

I have a weird thing for the funky old Ponitac wheels, the Sunfire had some awesome (read: ridiculous) designs. I really want a set for winters. Might make a change for next year.

If it's not your cup of tea, which I can't understand why it wouldn't be, a lot of VWs have 5x100 patterns as well.

People used to make fun of me because I refused to change the funky stock wheels on my Talon. I liked them.

The VW wheels can be had for a song in some places but again I am not sure about Alaska.

In places such as that they don't have the proper equipment for snow removal, sanding/salting, and people are not at all prepared for snow so I can totally understand the issues with even a bit of snow or ice. The video shot in Utah sowed nicely plowed and salted roads and the two automotive writers driving a car with snow tires were still all shocked and surprised that a RWD sports car could be driven so well. The video is great and I can see how it would convince people it is OK but it's very existence and much of the conversation perpetuates the myth that RWD cars are hard to drive in the snow.

I agree with you Tcoat, such myths perpetuate because of videos like that. I believed in such myths too unless you research about it. I was looking into a WRX (AWD=more safer). I think and many would agree that, it is about how one uses their common sense (which is not very common) and their driving skills. FWD, RWD or AWD wouldn't matter if you are really stupid about things.

It is kinda like when you ride motorcycles. If you are gonna do crazy things, it will bite you. But if you do it within limits, it can be fun, you can enjoy it and be safe and keep others from being harmed too!
