Order sheet for a 1966 Ford Mustang with check boxes for the 'Std. 3 Spd Manual' or '4 Spd Manual' Transmission. Probably the slang endured due to the proliferation of referring to option packages.

"Hey Bill! You get the standard or automatic?"
"Four on the floor baby!"

Good for Lewis. It is nice that he has a company car to make the choice easier.

Never said it was the official term. The manual was the standard and that was what almost everybody called it for decades.
There are plenty of things that I will listen to you on but if I recall your age range correctly what we called things back in the 70s is not one of them.

I'm with the rest of the older guys on the "standard" thing. At some point manufacturers started offering automatics as standard and the whole world quit making sense.

I too use a 3rd pedal on the AT sometimes. Though really it's only the 2nd pedal twice when I jab the brake with both feet looking for a clutch lol

So when Lewis makes this thread we know what to tell him. Though I guess if he is making the thread maybe he changed his mind...

Oh, forgot one. As a youngin I also know of MT as standard. I just figured cuz it was the "more basic" version but it is also the standard option when companies both to make both AT and MT version.

Well I am glad to see that the term will be kept alive!

Now, let's talk about calling all alloy wheels "mags" again please so I don't let that one slip out. You get a real blank stare when you use that word around a bunch of 20 somthings at a meet.

Do they make wheels besides "steelies" that aren't alloy?
