It may be better to be bespoke in the end -- you'll get exactly what you wanted and not too many has test driven or sat in

It is fun. Although the anticipation can be a pain.

Not sure about TO but around here the dealers keep one car for test drives and the rest on the lot are not driven until sold. Not a hope in hell that you will get a test drive of the one you are actually buying (unless you are buying the demo).
Mine sat in the showroom for it's 4 months at the dealer and although it was never driven there were probably a couple of hundred people that sat in it.

Around here if the dealer has one..... They have one

So having never order any car before. How long before I get some form of confirmation that Subaru has heard my pleas and promises of monetary sacrifice

I placed an order and the next day I had a VON confirming my order. Delivery is another story though

I put mine to order mid-April last year and took delivery mid-June so about a 2 month wait which was miserable but honestly, going to pick it up and seeing it for the first time made me forget the wait.

That is the norm for Subaru and applied to the 16s but the 17s (and especially the PP ones) have gone way outside of the 2 month window. Although the promised January delivery (NOT November or December as so many said they were told) has started there are still guys that ordered cars months ago that are looking at March or April delivery dates. There have even been at least two that have been told that ordering has been closed although others have ordered after that so I don't think that is accurate. All in all the delivery on ordered cars seems to range from two to four months (with more than a couple pushing six)at this point and there doesn't appear to be any rhyme nor reason as to who is getting what when.

Per my dealer the VIN number is provided to dealer when the car is physically built. In my case (Toronto) the car showed up in dealer lot exactly 4 weeks after dealer got a VIN number.

Wow. Didn't know that was happening. Sounds similar to the Focus RS fiasco
