I bought my 2016 BRZ from Heuberger, and it was shipped over halfway across the country to me in Connecticut. Anyway, my car was dirty as hell from transport when it came off the truck, mainly due to it being the middle of winter. Make sure you inspect it closely for scratches or dents.

All my interior and exterior protective plastics were removed. The only things that were left on the car when it came off the truck were my window sticker, glove box sticker, some number code sticker on the top driver side of the windshield, and a Colorado temporary registration sticker on the bottom driver side of the windshield. Everything else was thrown in my glove box which included my temporary registration and paperwork, temporary plate, and even my "sold" sign lol.

Reminds me of back-in-the-day when I (well, me and the Army) had shipped a VW from Germany to the US. It arrived at a dock in Newark but they wouldn't take it off the boat ....... because someone was on strike.

So, being a Captain in the US Army, I went "off on" this boss type dock worker and ordered him to get my car off the boat. He turned to my buddy, who drove me up there and told him to get me off "his" dock .......OR, my car just may slip into the water when they do decide to get it off the boat ......

So, I spent a week in Freehold NJ, just to get my car. I don't know what they sprayed on my car, for the ocean cruise (looked and felt like a combination of paraffin and candle wax) but, it took me an hour just to get it off the windshield, so I could see out.

Now that's a thought.. how's it being driven out of the factory to its first parking lot and then from that parking lot to the truck that takes it the boat? Is it covered when it does its maiden sea voyage? Who greets it when it arrives at the dock? Who drives it off the boat? How long does it sit at the dockside wasting time?? The only solution I see is that we all buy cars that are manufactured by local people in your local area... perhaps this is what Trump has in mind as he too can't bear the thought of truck and ferry porters driving his new cars..

Maybe we should worry about the acid rain at the plants parking lot, being absorbed and trapped in the "protective" foam matt placed on at the end of the assembly line ...... and the rail dust at the shipping yard .... and the salt spray and seagull poop while in route ..... likewise at the port of entry.

It is a CAR. Just a freakin' CAR! There is nothing the dealer is going to do in prepping it that is going to harm it in any way.
I understand and appreciate that it may be people's first new car and they have dreamed about getting it for a long time but geeeez talk about going over the top. Can't wait to hear the screams of anguish the first time there is a paint chip or a bird craps on it.

I did cry a little when my car arrived in Germany (shoutout to @humfrz) with bird crap on it that damaged the clear coat finish. Apparently bird crap is corrosive over the period of 30-45 days. A few of us in the barracks managed to secure a "sports" parking area to protect us from door dings and the like.

You wash your car 2 times a year! lol It may seem over the top to some but for me, I don't want a stranger touching my car with the slight chance of anything happening to it the first day! To each their own. But I think it's crazy to have your car washed in the dealers dirty car wash machine on day 1. There have been thousands of cars washed before yours and that dirt left on the cleaning cloth things will scratch the car. If I ever get to buy another new car I'll do the same thing. It's "just a car" to some and to me it's an investment I want to keep maintained as best as possible.

Even that "dirty water" wash at the dealer is not going to harm your car. It may not get it as clean as you would like but it is not going to do any damage. Do you not drive your car? Never park it in the sun? Leaving the shipping wrap on until you get the car home is just plain silly. You delayed the exposure of about 10% of the car to the elements by a hour or so. Wow, that will make it last forever!
I am not criticizing the desire to keep the car nice but simply pointing out the futility and almost pathological obsession of worrying so much about the paint on delivery. In the end it remains that it is just a car and car paint is made to withstand all sorts of things including the one time touch of a "dirty" cleaning cloth.

i can this is the kind of shit that makes a person go insane. you can do all you want to protect your car but some careless moron will probably ding it or scratch it in a parking lot eventually

i would be more concerned at the end of the day if it runs well instead of looking good. if you are this anal and paranoid about it you might as well not drive it all. i realized i sleep a lot better at night not giving too much of a damn if my car has a scratch or swirls in the paint

I understand what you're saying but i don't want to take a chance of the dealer washing my car in their dirty wash machine and I wanted to unwrap the plastics myself. I always wanted to do this. You didn't see the car wash machine, the cloths were almost black! You can't say you would send your new car through that knowing that would you? So because you don't like it it's silly? I understand it will get dirty and exposed to sun that comment is insulting my intelligence. Washing your car so much it may drain a lake isn't pathological? I did it, it's over with so relax, it has done you no harm to you that I did this. Why you are concerned I did this is beyond me but it's your opinion and I respect it as always!

Yep, since birds don't pee (their pee comes out in their poop) and after a big meal of half rotten fish, their pee/poop contains uric acid ..... which can do a job on the paint/clear coat of a car......

What's with the "sports" parking area .. ?? I figure it was either in the Officers parking area or deep in the motor pool .... ??

Basically, three of us who baby our cars nabbed three adjacent spots next to each other, and we're wedged in between bikes and a curb.

The idea is that no one will ding our doors, since we all love our cars.
