As a beginner, full body is the best choice by far. Do your multijoint lifts first (squat, bench, pullups etc) as the activate the maximum amount of muscle per movement. Then if you want to do some curls, cable pushdowns, etc... You'll be set. Running in itself doesn't damage you. Running wrong can. I don't know the form for running safely so I can't help other than, if your joints hurt you're probably doing it wrong. And get good comfortable shoes. They don't have to be $200 Nikes, but $15 kicks from Walmart probably are a bad choice. I hate running so I hardly do it. It's hard, makes my lungs hurt, and it eats up all my muscle. If you can spare the funds, get someone who can coach you on squats, deadlifts, and bench press. Especially those first 2 can tear you up if you do them wrong. If you don't want or can't afford help, watch lots of YouTube and PRACTICE good form before testing your limits. Herniated discs and blown out knees come from bad form. Epic legs come from good form. Squatting is generally considered the BEST exercise as it activates the most muscle. Don't fear it, just don't be dumb either. If you hurt in an unusual way, something is probably wrong. For someone who's never lifted I'd start at 3 sets of 15repetitions(one full motion cycle, up then back down) for all exercises. Should be about 1-2 seconds per half of the movement (all the way up, then another 1-2 to lower the weight). If it's POSSIBLE for you to get 17reps, your weight is too light. If you CAN'T get 13, it's too heavy. It's common to reduce weight to get your reps in on subsequent sets. After 2 months, change that 15reps to 12, then 10. Your body reacts differently to different stimuli. When you lift things that are so heavy you can only manage a few (1-5) reps, your body builds strength more than size. When you lift weights that you can manage 8-12 reps, you body prioritises size over strength or stamina. And in the 15ish+range you primarily build stamina. Over 20 is useless other than for burnout or pump but you don't need to worry about that till youre more of a veteran. You want to start at higher reps because the heavier weights will demolish you until you get used to it. Beginner strength jumps fast due to you "learning" how to use your muscles better. Then you'll slow down on strength gains. Example beginner plan Monday-Wednesday-Friday 3 sets of 15(except squats) Squats(only do 10) Dumbbell Benchpress Deadlift Dumbbell Military press Pullups Row(not rowing machine, that's cardio) Cable crunches (squeeze hard for a second or 2 on each rep) Curls if you feel it Tricep exercise if you feel it Squats wear you out and offer the most risk when you're tired. Your legs and back can handle the higher weights better than your other muscles so it's OK to start at lower reps. But you'll have problems in the later reps if you go too long. Even moving to something like 4or 5 sets of 5reps later on is not a bad plan for squats. A good lifter can put up crazy numbers on squats. Do cardio a couple times a week if you really want to. Controlling your diet yields better results than pounding the treadmill but some people like it. You can hop on a rower or stair machine etc, just get your heart rate up and keep it that way for 20+ minutes. Don't forget to stretch AFTER working out. I don't hardly and it's a bad situation. Especially your glutes and hamstrings as these will fuck up your squat form Last edited by Ashikabi; 12-31-2016 at 03:47 PM. |

Honestly it's a tremendous help for me to get up and go to the gym vs. working out at home. I know if I'm at home I'll find an excuse in order to put off working out, but if I get out of the house and go somewhere whose sole purpose is to exercise, that puts me in the proper mindset to do a thorough job of it. There are times that I passionately hate getting up early enough to hit the gym before work, but I make myself do it because I know I need to and I'm trying to be disciplined instead of motivated. And it's paying off.

I go to work out. I've got my lifting/cardio routine, I put my headphones in, and I do my thing. And for the most part, the women are there for the same reason. They're there to work out, not flirt. They don't appreciate being distracted from their workout and made uncomfortable by people staring at them or trying to pick them up.

I can't say I've ever had that problem. Maybe when you're a super stud like Teseo things are different

A properly heated/steamed milk (or cream) - about 140F - also reduces the need for added sugar sugar, since the natural sugars in milk are changed, and it's actually sweeter. Sometimes it's the small changes. |
