Look on the rennlist, pelicanparts, and 6speedonline forums first to see if people are reporting any systemic issues with them. It's probably fine, but it never hurts to do some preemptive research.

I like the Macan and wouldn't mind having one. It probably wouldn't be a bad only car, and its limits are high enough that you can have a lot of fun without really stressing it.

OT but my bro was looking at Audi SQ5 and for some reason in his mind Macan GTS cross shopping. Then, a few weeks ago he traded his white 5 series for an almost identical looking new white 5 series. Not sure what turned him off the CUV but I guess repeating the identical car sounds like he "gave up" and went vanilla.

TheQ5 might be a cross shop option for a Macan.
Does she approve of the controversially coloured FR-S?

I'm going to tell you a story.. A story of my first car....

It was a 1998 Nissan 240sx. It had a list of mods to it when I bought it, but over the course of 5 years (2005-2010), I added and changed a variety of different things throughout. Aero, wheels, brakes, engine parts, suspension components, etc. I learned a lot from that car. I did most of the work on it myself, or with the help of friends. It was addicting, and I couldn't get enough.

I spent lots of time driving it too. It was my daily driven car, going to and from work and school 5 days a week, working as much as I could, because more hours meant more car parts. I was lucky to have understanding parents who were pretty laid back and allowed me to go out and enjoy doing events with the car and such. While they didn't really approve of how I spent all my time and money - they thought it wasn't financially smart - they still agreed it was better than spending it all on hookers, blow, and whatever else kids of my age (17) were doing. I managed to meet and befriend some great people within the community too; some of which have since turned pro and continued their passion in drifting. After roughly 3 years with the car, I ended up with this:

Vertex Aero, SSR wheels, Z32 brembos, KA24DE with GReddy TD06 setup, HKS Hipermax, Cusco everything, etc. etc. etc. After a solid 5 years with the car, it was time for a change. I spent tens of thousands of dollars on that car, and looking at an empty bank account every couple days became increasingly depressing. I ultimately decided it was time to move on and start fresh with a car that didn't require so much attention.

I ended up parting it out and got into another 240sx for a while. Had it for a year, just did basic stuff (Nardi wheel, welded diff, coilovers, arms, wheels/tires) and then sold it.

Fastforward to 2013...

I had a 2012 WRX and had just gotten it tuned. I had the car for a year exactly March 15, 2012 - March 15, 2013 and traded it in for an FRS. I missed my S14 to the point to where I wanted to build another car that resembled it and brought back the memories. Sitting in the FRS for the first time felt right at home. Seating position was bang on, and the controls were right where I wanted them to be. It felt like I was at home again. I had the car for less than 36 hours before I started buying parts for it.

I changed my mind a few different times on what parts to add, but ultimately ended up with this:

I loved the car so much. I miss it from time to time, too. While I know my current STI is the best car I've ever owned, the FRS is still the most fun car I've ever owned. I owned the car for 2 years (subtract 9 months of drive time because of deployment) and I put just a hair under 20k miles on it. During that time frame, I drove it from OK to AZ to CA to NV to AZ and back to OK within 2 weeks. Did multiple days of drifting while I was out there, plus a number of drift events in OK and TX. Do you know how many times the car broke? Take a guess...... Not once.

The fact that I could go to an event, beat the piss out of it, and drive home was a huge plus. The fact that I could sit in line waiting for my next run and also have the stereo and A/C blasting was a huge plus as well. Most cars at those events don't have A/C, and they were hating their life lol.

The only reason I got out of it was because it was getting out of hand, and what was supposed to be a ~$5,000 build quickly turned into a $10,000 build. After spending so much time and money modifying cars, I wanted to get into something that was more "ready to go" out of the box. So I got a 2016 STI. I've had the car for a 18 months and all I've done is an AOS, brake pads/rotors/lines/fluid, alignment, and oil pickup tube. It does everything I need it to and I couldn't be happier.

However, there's still that empty space in my heart that comes up every now and then. Especially when I see pictures of what I had, and how much I enjoyed that car. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if I ended up selling the STI down the road and hopped into another one, or an ND MX5. I drove that and absolutely loved it. I'll hold judgement until I've driven the MY17 BRZ/86 though.

For me, the emotion was reliving the good times from my first car. I'd do it all over again, too. If it's the type of car you're looking for, you can't be disappointed. I think you just need to be true to yourself and what you want in a vehicle. If the spec sheet gets you hung up and makes you second guess buying the vehicle, it may not be the proper car. If that isn't such a large concern though, it's a very difficult vehicle to beat at that price point, in terms of fun factor.

We see posts all the time about how "90s Japanese cars were the best" and so on. Well..... right now, this is about as close as you can get to those glory days.

TL;DR

The car is pretty cool. I liked it. I sold it because I'm an idiot. You should buy one. Now. If the dealership is closed, just steal it and then go back the next morning to pay for it. Seriously. You shouldn't wait any longer. Stop reading this and go buy it.

No she hates the orange. Wants light blue cars.

My first thought was "Ooh, does the Macan come in Mexico or Miami Blue?"

Nope, oh well. However, the Sapphire Blue is very pretty. Or you could get it painted to a color of your choice (Mexico Blue).

I have zero say in the color.
