Exactly. If it was a nice Tacoma or better still a (Japanese built) Hilux things would be different. But a Ford Ranger with 200k

I had a truck for 5 years, it was my first car and had it for about 2 years overlapping the 86. I dearly miss it but it doesn't make sense to keep it, it's a sale I'll regret but not for any logical reason.
If you have the means to borrow a truck the one or two times a year you actually NEED a truck it's a waste, unless you like trucks. I didn't use my truck at all the year leading up to it's sale and borrowed a truck because it was more convenient than the 86 for one afternoon. (Transporting two sets of tires, could have been done with an extra round trip in the 86). That Ranger is worth way less than your IS300 imo, as long as they both run and don't have major problems. But that's just me, there's a ton of engineering and design sunk into the IS300, the Ranger is just a cheap truck, and with the 4 cylinder and AT combo it's going to get the same fuel economy while feeling like a total dog and at 200k miles unless it was extremely well taken care of it's probably on it's last legs. That IS300 will probably truck on for another 100k miles for chump change. https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymo...r_Pickup.shtml https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find...n=sbs&id=17577 I get wanting the 'utility' but if you do it I think you need some cash on top for the IS300. Maybe not if it was a really nice Hilux or Hardbody but the Mazda/Fords really don't seem to last much past 200k. But then again my values are totally warped, I wouldn't be interested in a truck built after 2000 except as a cushy tow vehicle. Last edited by strat61caster; 12-14-2016 at 12:55 PM. |

https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymo...r_Pickup.shtml Hearing what's wrong with the IS300 I get why your attracted to dumping it, but you're going to be dealing with the same if not more annoying and more frequent problems with the Ranger. I say just sell the IS300 outright and pocket the money, how's your Roth IRA doing? |

You guys are talking me out of it. The original plan was to simply sell it. But having 2 cars is nice especially since I plan on moding the fr-s further so It may be down for a few days at some points. Perhaps ill put it on craigslist for trade and see if I can get a Taco or a tundra out of it.. Or balls out drift car with r154 M/T swap, hydraulic e-brake and huge wing ect.. or just fix it and continue to use it as a beater.. |

If you're going to try and get better fuel economy than the IS300, get a 4-cyl MT, anything else in a truck will be the same or worse.
Loved my '91 Hardbody, KA24DE, 5 speed MT, no tach, brilliant AC, crammed 3 other people in it once or twice, averaged 22-23 mpg, always took a beating ready for more, sliding around in the rain & dirt roads for a laugh, and I hated all the newer trucks I drove (every brand except Dodge, early 2000's era, all AT). Best $1k I ever spent, dumped about $1.5k into it for maintenance, sold it for $2k. Hilux and Hardbody were the peak of small trucks, all downhill from there. |

I often look at local classified ads to see if I can snag a late 80's or early 90's small truck. Unfortunately they're few and far between and a good chunk of change. I'd love a 2wd truck that I can beat on and use a bit more practically than the car. Unfortunately, with 5 vehicles in the driveway already, and having 2 vehicles of my own, a third just isn't really in the cards. Though I've spoken with my old man, and he's kind of on board with me buying a shit heap, keeping it at the cottage and slowly working on it. I'd love to drop it on it's nuts, put flares on it, run stupid wide wheels and just have a cool truck to bomb around in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

What I really need to do is just start saving a couple bucks from each pay, and in a year or so look at what I have and then seriously look. I remember about 5 years ago, I found a Jeep Comanche with under 200,000km on it for 1k. There were some problems with it, and I didn't really want to deal with them since it was going to be my only car and I needed it driveable asap. I'm kicking myself right now for not buying it and just storing it. If I had that thing today, I'd have put a lot of time into it and could maybe even get a nice little profit from it. Edit: quickly browsing through those ads, I could have a decent running example for under 5000CAD, with the flight there and driving back included in that sum. Fuck me, time to start squirrelling even more money away! |

Like I said, not sure about it. Maybe I can get away with the 25+ year old, or get it registered as a classic maybe? I know for sure that the rules for classics are wildly different from pretty much everything else.

Ah, that's good to know. I really need to look into this stuff more, but I'll probably do that when it's more of a reality. I have a $3500 trip to pay off hahaha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
