Bought an FRS.. Trade my is300 for truck?????

Ok so I picked up a Raven manual 2014 FR-S about a month ago now, and have already purchased: Wheels, Tires, invidia q300 catback, spc lca's, camber bolts, tein springs, and a weighted shift knob. All of which was about 2k

Soooo I have an 2002 lexus is300(yes its automatic) that I have been driving and beating on for the past 2 years. Now the car has 260000 miles. I purchased the car with 200000 on the odo. Did the timing belt service myself when I purchased the car which included water pump all new fluids, front main seal cam seals ect.. Overall the car has been rock solid reliable..
So I know the condition of the maintenance..

My friend has offered to trade me his 2000 ford ranger 4cl auto with 200k on the clock.

It is very tempting since I already have a newish fun car to mod and hoon in... If I keep the lexus I know I will want to mod it too. It is currently stock.
Plus the utility of a truck would be nice for occasions when I need to move things or pick up car parts and perhaps would be a better beater and less tempting to modify. Also much cheaper to maintain (Lexus is proud of their parts).

The truck is in overall better condition from what I can tell.. at least the interior is much cleaner than my lexus's very worn interior is...

The paint on both cars is about equal in condition.
Both have fairly new tires.

Guys help me out! Is it worth it?

Thanks in advanced

Don't do it...

You would be getting the car with less value.

I'd suggest you keep the sedan, that way you can haul at least 4 people.

When you need a pickup truck ...... just borrow your friends/neighbors.....

Get the truck. People can always use a truck. I want a truck but have no place to park one. Mind you last time I went shopping for a truck was 1992. I bought an Eagle Talon TSI AWD instead. My wife was furious.

When my girl says I act like a retard sometimes, I'm always like "lol wat" but then I picture myself doing something very similar to that. Imagining the look in her eyes for that situation is a combination of hilarious and terrifying.

This will be my problem next time I go to purchase a vehicle. I have the brz and its paid off next month. Once we pay off the wifes jeep we bought last year then It will be my turn to get a vehicle. Trying to decide if I want a wagon or a hatchback or just say F it and buy a truck. We have no kids at this point but plan to in the future. Trying to decide if I need something that can haul or just get a nice sedan for gas mileage and still have the ability to fit car seats in it and just get a trailer for the times I need to haul stuff since the jeep is more then capable in that regard.

How often do those occasions happen? If not that much, then I'd say keep the IS300. There's plenty of places such as Home Depot that you can rent a truck from if the need arises. I also can't imagine the value of a Ranger comparing to that of an IS300, even though the latter has about 60,000 more miles on the clock.

There isn't any reason why you can't mod the Ranger, though. It's not at all my scene, but search up minitrucks if you want at least some ideas on where to go with the Ranger.

I want to suggest getting a bigger truck instead if you wanted to take your FR-S to the track, but from what I've pulled up online, the Ranger can tow quite a lot for its size.

I believe the maintenance cost savings will outweigh the value difference...

It needs: A new vvti gear as this one is leaking, new door lock motor for 1 door, new front seats at very least for the interior, 1 new seatbelt as it is starting to unravel, I need to take out the dash and repaint it as the finish they use melts and rubs off which is very messy to touch it..

The big thing is that leaky vvti gear. Its such a pain to get to. will probably take 5-10hrs for me to do. very annoying since I should have just replaced it when I did all the timing stuff. But I wasent aware this was a common problem at the time.

My friend is aware of these issues.

Both vehicles sell for well above blue book price around here.. atleast from what I can tell on craigslist listings.

Don't get me wrong that 2jz is smooth, I don't think Ive ever experienced another engine as smooth. The car is very comfy and body is in great shape. Its also very thirsty for gas 18-20 mpg avg. That truck will easily get better mpg.

I don't haul more than 1 other person often at all and I think the need to haul more than one other person is about the same as the need to haul stuff in a truck.

If I do keep it. I will have to get some springs, wheels and repaint the bumpers at least... and probably put on some aftermarket headers before the cats start to fail..

I have never owned a truck.

Such a difficult decision...

I love trucks (currently dailying my 2000 f250 diesel). The issue is, why do you want this truck?
What is its gearing ratio? Because that will determine if it can tow anything. (this particular trucks max tow rating is only up to 1600 depending on gearing. some are rated as no towing)

There really is no reason to get a truck if you aren't going to be towing / moving crap with it.

You wont be able to tow a car with it. You wont be able to tow much of a trailer with it. You might be able to move a couch with it.. but your MPG is going to go out the window. Pointless.

If you want to trade for a truck, trade for a truck that atleast can DO something if you need it to.
