Where does the FRS TRD exhaust growl...

I'm new with lots of things, one of 'em is exhausts. So apologies.

I love the FRS growl on the TRD exhaust. Where is it created in the exhaust? Can someone explain it for me? Please?

Just driving today on way to get coffee and like 3 consecutive people commented on it. Got me thinking.

Combination of the resonator and muffler. Could even come down to things like the angle of bends and the tip shape.

Acoustics are an impossible beast to tame.

This^^ Pipe diameter also comes into play. All these thing contribute to the sound.

Thanks for that. Needed the reassurance that my "common sense thinking" wasn't actually "talking out of my ass".

I've never actually put a good amount of thought into all the factors contributing to sound in an exhaust. This is a good brain exercise.

But if you change the packing in a TRD exhaust is it still a TRD exhaust?

What would be the point? More trouble than it's worth. Just buy a Corsa.

No it's me Pack.

I hear two sounds. The exhaust sound which sounds like any sport exhaust and a growl. The growl we refer to here (on the forums) as a purr.

Is that part of the mix in exhaust metals? Wonder if part of sound is intake.

Read Ice's link.
The intake does effect the sound for sure.
The boxer engine also has a very distinct sound to it (like Ice's link explains sort of) and I usually hear one coming well before I see it. Usually turns out to be another boring old WRX but I can still tell.
