I talked to a guy in a z06 at the track this weekend who said a lot of the vette guys run continental extreme contact dw for their wet track tires. I have no experience with them, but reviews say they're similar to the PSS which I like.

I use DW as my daily tires and puddly autox tire. Big fan, but the PSS is better in the dry by quite a bit. The wear great if you're not beating on them, though.

I had 215 PSS on stock wheels when I bought my car. They were fine, but I was coming from ZII and RS3V2 so I think I wasn't as impressed as people going from primacies to PSS.

Yeah the DWs are great rain tires. I also use them as my daily driver tires but the dry grip and braking performance aren't in the same ballpark as a PSS, let alone the top tier tires. I swap tires for events so it doesn't matter, but If you want a single set of tires the PSS is going to be better.

Yeah, I swap to re71s for events. In my last daily driver 240 I ran DW and beat on them for a weekend of fun-runs and they were *pissed*. Learned that lesson the hard way.

My 235/40-17 Toyo RR racer takeoff slicks almost corded yesterday so I replaced them with 255/40-17 Toyo RA1, on 17x9 RPF1s. Almost forgot how good these tires are for DE - plenty sticky, wear like iron, take on heat cycles and progressive at the limit. I don't think that I will run anything but Toyo Proxes RA1 or Nitto NT01 for DE until I can drive at the limit in every corner. After I'm done with these RA1s, I will probably buy a set of 235/40 NT01 for dry and 235/40 RA1s for rain (and dry spares), both on 17x9 from 949racing.com.

I'd made a decision mid 2016 track season to stay away from slicks until I learn how to drive over 1G/at the limit in every corner with UTQG 100 tires. I've been thoroughly impressed once again with Toyo Proxes RA1 tires - not cheap but plenty sticky for HPDE, great as rain tires when relatively new and progressive at the limit. I'm getting sustained 1.2-1.3G (depending on banking) on AIM Solo DL with 255/40-17, in dry, with track camber and dialed in suspension. They will heat cycle out before I wear them out. Have a new set in 235/40-17 ready to put on when the forecast is dry+rain. I'll keep one newer set for mixed/wet track days and another more worn set for dry track days, then get a new set when worn retire. Most of the time shouldn't need to carry two sets of wheels.

There's a good chance you will not experience this.

If they do cycle out, you may not notice in your lap time or they may not cycle out at all depending on how fast you wear through them and how hard you push them. I've set fastest times with RA1s (and RRs) showing their cords all the way around the tire. Several racers have.

It's also worth mentioning that a lot of folks will often mistake "cycling out" for a tire that's been at rest for awhile and needs a cycle or two to "wake up". The other thing too is thinking they've "cycled out" while on track because the grip has decreased during the session. A Hoosier R6/R7 will really fall off in performance if the driver is over-driving them, exceeding their slip angle a lot or over heating them but they may have cycled out yet as you can experience this loss of grip on sticker hoosiers if over driven.

I'm saying all this so people don't dispose of tires prematurely! Save those $$$.

Good feedback thanks!

The RA1 are definitely faster as they wear and apparently fastest just before they cord. I'd heat cycled them out before (I was a little slower then) and I see that I'm wearing them faster now but not fast. They wear like iron, impressive. Nitto NT01 wore quicker.

No personal experience with "waking up" tires except that my old RA1 dropped quite a bit after 30+ heat cycles out so I discarded them with some meat still on.

I tend not to overdrive tires so others who do will have better info on limits and longevity. I'm sticking with RA1 for now.

Im not looking to break records and I am very interested in exploring limits of less sticky tires to learn how to become a better driver - haven't tried Hankook RS3 before so likely will in 2017.

Excellent point. At our last event of the season I had no track tires left so I ran my PSS (OEM size) for the weekend. I was amazed by how much fun I had on those tires. I had forgotten how much fun less grip was.
