man those used 2010+ wrx sti's and lancer evo's are expensive as crap used with even with high mileage...the 350Z's are following in the same path with people asking a crazy price for a car from 2005

I think current used car market is controlled by young #lifestyle kids. Most of so called fixed up cars I see locally are stanced. I am not hating on them but seems like they like certain cars and price has gone up.

WRX Impreza 2007 non performance with 96k sold for 15k USD. Owner wanted 18k originally.

FRS yellow edition with 58K sold for 17k USD. Owner wanted 21k but KBB said 16k. This was RS 1[?].

I'm considering buying a WRX [lol]

Ohhh my buddy just sold his BRZ [2014 with 67k auto] for 18k.

All private buyers. Dealers want about 3-5k less haha

It is a production car..what can you expect? Our car is just like civic now.
And I am sure people will move on to new civic TYPE R once it comes out.
Who knows, maybe someday 2013-2016 model become special just like supra, fd3s, and ae86 and still selling for a high price.

It is my destiny to meet this car, 10-series 2500 made. You may have red, yellow, white, blue, black but the bluish silver color is irreplaceable.
So, I dont plan on selling this car, so the re-sale value mean nothing to me.

I hear ya. I almost went that route. But I was able to get a 2015 for good price from the dealer, 1. it was the last 2015 they had 2. they were motivated to get rid of it since scion is dead. Got it "new" for 21k. So I think that was pretty good. But it still took a 6k depreciation hit. I am totally happy with it and will hold on to it unless the newest 86 is amazing in a few years.

Series 10. Just checked on KBB with 41K miles. Bought for 21.5K with 26K miles. Now worth around 16K... maybe on trade for another car at the dealer. I expect it to level out some. Maybe next year it'll only drop to $14K if I don't go over 60K.

Really sucks. Was expecting maybe a $3K drop after a year, but it dun tanked. Should have waited to buy the thing

As has been said many times in this thread the resale on these is worse than some and better than others. It is a car. They depreciate. They do the worst in the first 5 years. Nobody has had one for longer yet. If you buy a car to make money you screwed up big time. Live with it.

As my late grandfather used to say, "Any brand new car is not a good financial investment, car depreciates $5K as soon as you drive off the lot!"....

Certainly a wise man, but it blows my mind how many times I hear people refer to a car as an investment. The only time that applies is when you're buying some low volume, high end car that someone is going to want years after it's out of production and will pay you buku bucks for the opportunity to say they had and/or drove one. LFA, GT40, F-40, F-50, Veyron, Ford GT (both times), 250 GTO, 911 GT2, an all original Barracuda with 50 miles on it, etc. Those can be viewed as investments, but every car, most especially your more common, non-supercar daily transportation, is a liability... especially if the bank owns it for X more years.

Even those can be a gamble since they can go up and down in price in truly wild swings. You also have to consider the investment in storing and maintaining it for 30 or 40 years. Not like you can just park it in the back yard and sell it off later. We can't forget the fact that every single mile you drive it drops the value so you have capital tied up in something you are not even using all that time. You are way better off putting the money in the bank and collecting interest for the same period.
