Serious question, does anyone make a winter/snow tire in 265/30zr19? I really want to avoid having to buy new rims for winter time driving.

If they do I would highly recommend not running a tire that wide in he winter. My brief search turned up a couple winter capable all seasons but no strictly snow tires.

Why is that exactly? My area doesn't see a lot of snow, it's just super cold

If you don't see alot of snow you would be fine. But then at that point if your not seeing much snow id go for an all season over an actual snow tire anyway.

Good option in your size is the Continental DWS

It's much easier to swap wheels in your driveway than unmounting and mounting tires.
That and your want the narrowest tire you can get to cut through snow to the pavement.

Yes. You are wrong. Have a nice day, troll.

to the OP: Given your area is prone to cooler temperatures and not snow very often, I would recommend an All Season tire as your next set of rubber. Full on winters are probably uncessary, especially since I seem to recall that winter temperatures in Seattle aren't usually that harsh.

I may catch some flame here, but I would look at your long-term weather forecast--the more days you see where the highs are below 40, the more I would say swap out your tires sooner. However, I think you might be able to get away with the Primacys if you aren't getting snow or sub 40 temperatures regularly, and you drive CAREFULLY when the conditions dictate it, especially when its cooler on wet roads. I've been through 3 winters now with this car (with winter tires, it gets cold and snowy on a regular basis here) and can tell you that cautious driving is 75% of the solution.

OP - So I'm guess you haven't seen your forecast lately, you guys are about to get hit with a snow storm...

In all seriousness get yourself some winter tires. Its not only the snow, most tires actually do "OK" in the snow, its the icey, slushy, mess that accompanies it and follows it that's the worry.

Of course you know its quite wet there, what happens when it rains at 30ish degrees then at night falls to 20s? Everything freezes and you have ice covered roads. In Kansas City we may get 4 or 5 snow falls in the winter but it gets cold and we get that light rain the freezes on everything at night when it gets in the teens. The next morning the roads, parking lots, street, everything is covered with a sheet of ice. This is where a set of winter/snow tires is going to save you from running into someone or being wrapped around a light pole.

I'm just south of OP in Tacoma and just bought a 2014 BRZ that came with Hankook Ventus v12 Evo summer tires. Because temps these last few days have been in the 30's I've been driving another vehicle.

Did the winter vs all season debate and I also tentatively settled on the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+, looking at buying them and getting them installed at Costco.

YES! Yes you are wrong, and you are giving bad advice.
It is SO foolhardy to give advice in the manner that you are I would consider it to even be irresponsible.

IF you have been driving this car on the stock tires in ANY snow you are just very lucky. There is no other explanation - PERIOD.

The Ice-mode in this car will do terrible things to you and make you lose control if the tires begin to slip.
My traction control was disabled and turned itself back on when it detected a wheel slipping and did precisely the wrong thing for the circumstances and made the car spin. (precise details if you like)
The software does NOT know how to respond because it was never designed to operate with tires that have a coefficient of friction of effectively ZERO.

DONT FUCK AROUND WITH IT - you will get yourself or someone else killed.

I was Born in Aspen CO, learned to drive in the snow, have over 35 years driving in the snow, NEVER used snow tires in my whole life (just all-seasons) - UNTIL THIS CAR.
(I used to drive a Supra to work year round)

So dont try to blame my loss of control on bad driving skills.
IT WAS THE SUMMER TIRES - IN SNOW - at about 3 degrees below freezing.

And OP I agree with HunterGreene - get all seasons.
