Would my records be affected even tho I'm the innocent third party? And I want my car fixed, I don't really mind the diminished value of the car. It's my first car, looking forward to keeping it as long as possible

Still reading up more on Oregon insurance laws before I really make a claim on my own. If I were to not make a claim on my insurance, I'd have to wait longer for repairs cuz both insurers would need to inspect it and for them to come to an agreement on what percentage of repairs they would answer for. Which sounds really tedious. To my understanding of the adjusters explanation, the exact same thing would be the case in regards to medical attention. But of course, I would only need to see one therapist/medical facility. If I filed a claim on my own insurance, I could make use of my personal injury protection, but that would have me repay them at least partially at the renewal period. They call it subrogation. I think it's stupid since I pay for it monthly then repay when I use it. But like I said, reading up on it more.

Insurance companies and shady PERIOD. Don't take their word for a lot of stuff. I think the best bet is to wait for the other party's insurance to fully cover the damage (wait for their adjuster to inspect repairs). Using your own insurance can be a headache even if they reimburse your deductible. It can be much more complicated. I am helping a close friend fight his own insurance because of an issue like this. He actually had to sue his own insurance because they wouldn't fully pay out some of his claims (he was not at fault). He had to file a bad faith claim and has been fighting it in court for almost a year. GO THROUGH THE OTHER PARTY INSURANCE. And use their rental coverage. Friend also had to file a loss of use claim after he used his other vehicle instead and that has also been a huge headache. Just make sure they don't have some sh!t coverage and that it will fully cover your rental, repair costs, medical claims, and diminished value.
