Keep in mind that when you dyno reclass into one of the letter classes, you will get a higher weight/power ratio than the class minimum. For example, I looked into dyno reclassing my car into TTD, where the class minimum is 14.25 lbs / whp. However, when I submitted my dyno sheet, I was given a 15.67 lbs / whp ratio, meaning that if I wanted to reclass with the 194 whp I was making I would have to weigh in at 3040lbs, which would have meant adding a lot of ballast. In the end I decided that reclassing in our cars just isn't worth it. Hence why I'm moving to TT4 for next year (although TT5 in 2018 might be a better option for an NA car).

Very true. Greg does not class you to the max power:weight for the class (because that would make too much sense). Even our dyno reclass for TTB capped us at 12.8:1 vs. 12:1 if I remember correctly. The minimum weight went UP to 3,000lbs again, if I remember correctly. That's why my initial answer was that the reclass is almost never beneficial.
Thanks for refreshing my memory on that guys!

The flip side though, the Miata guys have shown power > weight when it comes to setting faster lap times.

The Miata guys who are setting records are usually also running PT cars, not TT cars, and have a bias toward power. |

Our spec86 cars are dyno reclass 180whp with 2850 minimum weight so no it does not go away, but we have no points for weight and drive train mods, so still 19 left for mods. Spec86 does not use all 19 points. |

I only made 164whp with OFT Stage 1 tune at the NASA dyno (Summit Point). In this case I am opting to dyno reclass and take the 2850lbs min weight. I tried TTE trim and would have been very competitive with the Miatas (there were 2 other instructors there who couldnt TT that weekend either) with literally a few tenths apart, my challenge was I blew the damn stock shocks again (third set) with fluid and noises all over the board. Hence TTD: 1) 17*9 ET45 RE71R (back ordered at Tire rack arriving July 16th) 255 sized +4+1= 5 2) MCS Doubles non remote +3 (arriving today) 3) 550/550 springs with vorshlag plates and rear mounts (arriving next week) +2 4) TRD sways installed +2 5) APR GTC200 rear wing +4 6) APR front splitter +3 No point mods: 1) rear subframe insterts 2) short shifter 3) autopower rollbar 4) seat/harness 5) Perrin oil cooler 19 points dead on with 2850 comp weight to go. Chose to run aero vs Hoosiers for two reasons. I only have one set to play with and it does rain a fair bit. No power mods because I want to wait for rules change to see if I get to play in TT5 or 6. Be interesting to see data. Per Jason at Vorshlag be a very close call by running aero and RE71 (better for faster tracks like VIR) vs no aero and Hoosiers. Time will tell. First event in Aug at VIR with NASA. 1) What are you guys running for camber? I am expecting -2.2ish at the back (non adj) with -2.7 front. 2) What about the ride height? will run 1.5 inches lower both front and rear. 3) Anyone has tried the new Toyo R888R or the BFG 1.5 Rival S? Feedback? asking as I can run either in 255 for same points. Cheers, Lutfy

I'm at about -1.9*-2.0* in the rear with stock arms at just under an inch lower than stock. Your guess is probably pretty close.

This thread is awefully quiet. How are the rest of the peeps doing in TTD?
My car is almost done per the mods listed above. With the rollbar it came in at 2735lbs without me. I may remove the passenger seat (going to corner balance without it) and see if I can get lightweight battery (maybe). Need to come in at 2650 with half tank (w/o 200lbs driver). Lutfy

If I can manage to cross the finish line in the last two races I'll win TTD for the Rocky Mountain region. That's not saying much, though, as there isn't a lot of competition. There is one guy much faster than me in a 330, but he missed an event, so that hurts him points-wise.
Another friend of mine, Robbie, races Spec 944 and once in a while TTD. He's a little faster than me (I think) in his FRS, but again, doesn't get points unless he enters TT. Another friend of mine with a FRS (also on this forum) is in TTD, but his car isn't as well prepped for track driving, so he's at a distinct disadvantage. I'd like to hear how others are doing, too! |

I dont race in Nasa TT/TD because well, im in Canada. But we do have a local time attack series that uses a very similar point for classing, Track and Time (trackandtime.ca). Im currently winning my class (TA-5) and could finish up with a perfect score (its best 5 of 7 available events, and I have won 4 of 6 so far). There is actually a very slim chance I lose first place if the guy in second (running an E30 318 I think) wins the last one and I either dont participate or loose by a big margin. Points are based off time from first place, while first place gets 100 points.
