Owning a BRZ myself I might appear a little biased, but I really do think the new 2017 BRZ looks a lot better than the 86 so if you are in a position to wait a little longer for the 2017 refresh I'd simply place an order for exactly what you want. I'd also look into the new performance pack option, though I believe its still awaiting release?

Lastly in terms of value retention, BRZ's are rarer than 86's and (in Australia's case) have a 3 year resale value higher by a few % being a crazy 62%, which is higher than most Porsches and just about any Euro. In years to come the BRZ will become the real cult car of the two simply down to rarity.

I see a lot of your guys recommending the BRZ - not to worry, I plan on driving one. I like the front end of the FR-S better, so I've been trying to find a new 2016 still sitting on the lot, but the amenities of the BRZ are pretty appealing and I definitely want to try one before I buy anything.

The problem? Not a SINGLE Subaru dealership has one within like a 50 mile radius the last time I checked. At least, none of the new ones. I've found a couple used ones I'll probably have to try out instead.

I second that.

Also >take your time< and get the exact model and color you desire...and at a good discount.

Even 2017s are discounted this time of year. Even 'ordered' cars can be discounted.

Dealers will also deal on the last days of any month.

Be willing to look outside of your area for the car you want. These cars are bulletproof, I've found, so no real reason to be living or working near the store where you buy a car.

Subaru base model, 2017 model year, the premium is $805. cheaper than the 86.

What kind of discount do you think I could get realistically this time of year? I'm definitely not in a hurry (yet) and when it comes down to it I'm definitely going to get the color and model I want.

Speaking of which - the FR-S I tested was Silver. I've seen the car in person in white and black which I loved both. Silver has never been my fav, but it looked really nice in person. Almost made me consider a silver. I really like the WRB on the BRZ, too.

I'd hop on both of the respective websites and take a closer look at that the MY17 refresh looks like for each. Also worth knowing is there have been some pretty extensive detail revisions for both. The Manual version from each camp also came out with a tiny bit more power and torque and (more importantly) its final drive ratio has been updated from 4.1 to a 4.3.

This might be of use to you http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103053

If I were planning to order a specific setup colour etc and was in the market for a brand new car, I would not think twice about getting an MY17.

If you liked the auto, you're gona love the manual. It does need more speed. I think if you do some pipes exhaust tune and CAI you can reach 200 and I think that'd wake the car up. I'm battling with, trading it, putting all that krap on it or just putting in a super charger. I don't know yet. I love the way this car handles. It's essentially a store bought race car

as others have said don't settle for a spec that you don't really want, especially so you don't come to regret something about the car in a few months from now.

People won't actually realize what a very awesome little car it is until it is no longer made.

Hi Protege13, I just bought a new 2015 Scion FR-S in September of this year. You asked how much you should expect to pay for it. Mine is a Firestorm red automatic. The sticker price was $26700. I got $3000 off the list price. The car had been sitting on the lot for almost a year. It had 250 miles on it - I'm assuming test drive mileage. I too, had been looking for a manual, but my wife fell in love with it - she just drives an auto, so this works out for her too. It has the paddle shifters, so I get to have some fun too. We are using this as our new road trip car, so she can drive it too. I don't know how much the dealership wants to sell your particular car for, but up here in the colder climates, they tend to discount them pretty heavily in September and October. Good luck! By the way, I don't regret buying the automatic at all! It's a great sports car!
