This is a great thread with a lot of good information.
I had decided on JRSC as it seemed like the most reliable, well-engineered kit on market. When Edelbrock was released, it appeared to be similar quality. Seems you can't go wrong with either. However, I moved towards wanting the Edelbrock more, since it seemed have more potential for big numbers, especially going with a built motor, e85, high boost pulley, etc. I think the release of the JR c38 kit changes that. In the above posts, are people comparing the JR c30 to the Edelbrock? Or the C38? For me, it's coming down to the following questions... Looking for some feedback for the C38... That is the only version of the JR I am considering. 1. With more supporting mods (e85, hbp, fuel injectors, fuel pump, built motor, etc) how would the JR C38 compare to Edelbrock, in terms of numbers or drivability? 2. Ease of install: can we get more opinions on this? I want to do it myself. I have time (car is not my DD) and some basic experience with bolt on mods ( Exhaust, suspension). But I want to learn more, and the only way too do that is to jump in head first. That said, I want something that is Well thought out, easy enough to build and troubleshoot, for a first timer. It seems the JRSC is the winner here, but I want more opinions on that. 3. Use case: I want the car to be a fun street car, but i also autocross 6 to 8 times a year, and want to start doing track days. For this use case, which kit makes sense? My eventual goal will be a dedicated track / autocross car, shooting for 400+ hp, would love to someday hit 500. 4. Reliability. Haven't heard about many problems with JRSC, but some issues with Edelbrock were presented earlier in this thread. At the higher hp levels, would one kit outshine the other in terms of reliability? I know reliability will suffer with more power, but I'm thinking more along the lines of overall reliability, from initial install and onwards thoughout the entire build. Thanks. I've been reading this forum for months and almost never post here... So am genuinely hoping for some good advice. |

As far as installation, the JRSC kit seems a lot less involved in comparison to the Edelbrock kit. However, the instruction manual for the Edelbrock kit shows every step with an accompanying picture while the JRSC manual has less pictures. I installed the Edelbrock kit by myself over the course of 2 days with about 10 hours of work. I would not recommend doing the install solo. I would estimate that I could install a JRSC kit within 5-6 hours. |

2. The JRSC is a shorter install; the Edelbrock kit ultimately breaks down into a lot of simple steps. The Edelbrock really requires 2 people to safely put the manifold on the engine (and only for this step). 3. The Edelbrock kit is superior for bursts of power and competitive Autox (water can absorb heat faster than air), but the JRSC is superior for long term sustained power on track (air holds less heat to be dissipated). If you're not looking for every last bit of power, than this is moot. 4. Again, your power level will dictate reliability, not the kit. Both kits are rock solid reliable. |

Thanks for replies... More food for thought.
It seemed earlier the thread that the Edelbrock kit might prone to install errors, and that the tune wasn't refined. Is this still an issue? If not, what was the resolution? |

I ran the CARB tune for about 200 miles and experienced some of its quirks. The idle would hunt around between 500-1.1k RPM. At first I thought it was a vacuum leak or installation error but the idle hunting was solved by a different tune. The throttle response mapping wasn't as sensitive as I wanted it to be, making taking off smoothly in 1st gear difficult. I noticed that the power delivery when transitioning from 4k RPM and above was somewhat abrupt and the problem was resolved once again by getting a different tune. |

So were the new tunes provided by Edelbrock ( updated carb tunes), or were they tunes you had custom done by your tuner?

I'm guessing you're referring to the limit of the supercharger itself...
