So to test how a heavier shift knob will feel, I went full ghetto today (rather than pay for an expensive knob not knowing how it'll feel). I stuck 160g of stick on wheel weights (LOL) to my shift knob and I'm driving it like that for a week just to see. So, stock knob is 200g + diesel spacer ~110g + 160g of weights = 470g
I did notice a difference right away, but I'm not sure if it's worth what most weighted shift knobs cost. The real test will be when I get rid of the weights and go back to stock after a full week. |

Some possible weights are not listed in poll
![]() [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIfu2A0ezq0[/ame] Back to topic. While i hate too standing out rice-ish aftermarket parts, i don't exactly adore OEM knob. Don't like the feel in hand of stitching on stock knob. It's plastic cap also is too rattling/looks cheap. So when i'll decide to venture to aftermarket, i'll certainly won't take it as a goal to keep oem-ish look. Of course, majority of aftermarket knobs of all-metal design also are no-no in my book due uncomfort of touching with bare hand when too cold or too hot. I'd rather think of taking some aftermarket "hybrid" knobs with metal cores and plastic surround shell, and working on enhancing it (with eg. adding lead weights inside to make their weight closer to all-metal billet ones), and maybe thread them deeper, for them to seat lower (kind of surrogate short-shifter. IIRC TRD knob is this way). At some point i wished to find some nice "anatomic" / asymmetric knob, but couldn't find any that would have worked well with our reverse lockouts. |

So how would you go about weighing down an oem knob like the TRD or stock? Would you hollow it out and then replace it with something heavy?

I really like the stock knob's look and feel, but want something heavier. This would be perfect for me.
