2016 Honda Civic Thread (10th gen)

It might be an obvious assumption, but Honda probably wanted to avoid the possibility that they were encroaching on the Type-R.

Someone tell me, does Europe get an Si model for their Civic with more power between the base powertrain and Type R?

I can't find anything about it. So my guess would be, the new SI and Type R are already closely related in terms of handling, and Honda doesn't want people to shop the cheaper variant and just spend 600$ on a tune to get the 300+ hp. Similiar to the WRX, which people say is 9/10ths an STI for $10K less.

If the Type R is going to be $35K, we can guess the Si will be $25K. The 1.5T kills any risk of undercutting their "halo" product.

I'm fine with the Civic getting larger. That's the natural progression of things.

A FIT RS and I would buy it day 1.

I actually really like the Honda Fit...test drive it and it's a fun little car. Just wish there was a more aggressive version like the RS or as you say an SI version

But I doubt Honda will ever do that. The dealerships all push buyers to get the Civic. Even when I went to test drive the Fit the sales guy was telling me I should buy a civic haha.

I feel like Honda is afraid to bring back the magic they had in the 90s, which is a shame. Even Toyota makes more exciting cars these days which is pretty sad.


Don't even get me started on Nissan though.


We are very lucky that the 86 was produced at all. High output NA 4 cylinders seem to be a thing of the past.

I was a big Honda fanboy in the early days. I do still own an 2003 Accord SE, I bought used about 5 years ago for my son but only because it was what I could get a good deal on.

With maybe the exception of the S2000, this is the last car Honda made that even interested me at all as my own personal driver.

Honda used to make some really cool stuff but since the 8th gen civic and the S2000, I'm pretty much feeling the same way about not being interested in any of their products. All of their cool cars from the 90's and early 2000's are either in junkyards or owned by cretins who either take horrible care of them or think their cars are worth their weight in gold. I might own an S2000 one day since it is still fairly easy to find a nice garage kept, low mileage one but I don't see myself driving any other Honda for any reason unless they bring their fun game back with new models in a big way.

The sad thing is that it's just not Honda. Mitsubishi, Chevy, Dodge, and Nissan no longer have fun to drive economy cars.

Ford is a bastion of hope with the ST twins, but people these days want CUVs with big touchscreens and back up cameras.

Personally I don't see the point in buying a Fit. Any Fit other than the base model is pretty close to the cost of a Civic. You can get a Civic 5 door hatchback (1.5 liter turbo engine standard) with minimal options for around $2000 more than a Fit with a non turbo 1.5 liter engine.

What's the point?

& that my friend is why the fit doesn't sell well haha.

For me personally. The reason why I prefer it over the civic is because I've always liked little cars.. Especially "KEI" cars from Japan which we don't get here. So sub-compacts are the closest to that.

Also, I like the styling and that it's not common like a civic.

I see 100 civics for every fit.

I agree with your reasons for liking the Fit. But as long as it has that weak little engine, forget it.

I would somewhat agree, but that dinky engine is not without some upsides. My girlfriend drive one with the cvt and get prius level gas mileage. Great for putting around town, plus the interior space is enormous compared to cars of the same size, the way the seats fold up and out of the way, its like a van inside.
I'd never buy the car for its power or handling though, and I doubt anyone does.

I was gonna say the Fit has the advantage of hatchback versatility but that's basically what the new civic is too. Either way, lets make sure we get it out in the open that the non-si civic also has a pathetic, weak motor. Probably about equally pathetic when you factor in power to weight.

There are millions and millions of people that don't know what a turbo is much less care if it has one. They don't give a crap if they can get a turboed Civic because they don't want a turboed Civic. Believe it or not most of the car buying public doesn't care how fast a car is.
