Whiteline KDT922 (Subframe Bushing Inserts) Grease - Safe to use on Rubber?
So I installed these today but am wondering about the grease that comes packaged with the bushings.
I noticed that Whiteline included grease which is a Lithium base complex grease with moly additive (really just marine grease or multi purpose grease you can get at the hardware store). Quoting straight from Whiteline's website - "The supplied grease has been formulated from a reinforced No. 2 lithium complex base and selected additives with molybdenum disulphide for mechanical stability extreme pressure qualities for extended life and a high melting or drop point of 230C minimum." Since the Whiteline poly bushings make direct contact with the stock rubber bushing, is this grease safe to use on rubber? Now that they are installed, I am worried it may dry out the stock bushings causing them to crack. I can't find any definitive information that it is safe to use on rubber. |

Lithium or silicone based greases are fine for rubber and plastic. We use lithium grease to install bushing at a plant I work at. Do not use petroleum based greases on rubber or plastics!

Unless it is on components where you don't want it to wash off!

Bumping this thread to add some information.
Calcium Sulfonate Grease can be used in place of the grease that comes with Whiteline. Generally performs better than lithium complex grease and is compatible with it too. Lubrimatic 11404 has a drop point of ~287C (550f) and is certified NLGI #2 for automotive wheel bearing and chassis lubricant. A pound of it cost ~$12 on Amazon, you can use it for your clutch TOB and fork pivot too, beats paying for what Subaru recommends in price and performance. |
