Unless you can import a German version I would only go for the Mk4 Golf R32.

In the States compare to RoW, the Mk5 (and probably the Mk6 as well) is missing a subframe piece at the rear and the crankshaft can punch a hole into the HPFP cam follower, the Mk7 engine is missing port injection. With the Mk4 all you need to do is keep replacing those stupid plastic coil packs and timing chain guides, and maybe some window regulators lol!
