Holding off on wheels, need to build new computer.

A little sad since the one I frankenstiened together works perfectly fine. It just won't run any latest games.. or if it does, it'll be complete shit. Really want to get back into PC gaming.

I spent so much time on Skyrim (and other games made by Bethesda).. stopping playing because I got bored, didn't even play the main storyline! Most of the play time went to exploration or side quests

Was having second thoughts about leaving before, but this pretty much nailed the coffin.
Company (fairly large corporation) I used to work at was very restrictive with their internet, you could access news sites, google, etc. in the interest of "productivity." No forums, social media, etc. Then somehow, someone in leadership saw the light and sent out an email announcing that it had been discovered that more open internet led to happier employees and more productivity, so the only thing that was being blocked from there on in was personal/dating websites and "adult material," along with some other common sense blocks. And, wouldn't you know it, the people I worked with were generally happier and it was easier to get work done, albeit without a real change in productivity. People just bitched less.

Your company's draconian approach to browsing (reminds me of where my wife works) does nothing but make people bored at work and unsatisfied with their jobs.

2 weeks is correct, but depending on the company you work for, you may be politely asked to just leave when you give them notice, especially as it sounds like you're not viewed as essential there. In most cases like that, they'll give you your due vacation pay and some severance, but obviously severance is not guaranteed. Its probably in your employee handbook.

Yup, correct. My direct boss let it slide last night and what do you know.. Everyone was collaborating, less stressed (to me), and we actually got shit done! Don't get me wrong, some people take it way too far but in general, if there's shit to be done, things get taken care of.

Also nailed it on second part. No severance, I'm no where near that level.

Oh.. And saw the 17 FRS in person yesterday.

Not going to lie, it does not look that bad in person as it does in pictures. Still would not purchase that thing or trade my car for it but my opinion has changed.. Just a little

Two weeks is customary, and if you don't want to burn bridges, unless you have an agreement otherwise. The company where I work, as part of their employment agreement, requires 4 weeks if you want to have a status of "rehire eligible" when you leave. Of course, you can leave any company with 10 seconds notification if that's what you want to do (as long as you don't have a contract of some sort).

And yes, many companies will pay out your notice if there is a reason. For example, security (both physical and cyber) typically get walked out as soon as they give notice.

Had this happen at a different company when our lead security analyst left to go to a different company. He gave 4 weeks notice, and they walked him out, paying him for it (this was 1998 I believe)

I went to my boss (who was also a long-time friend) and handed him "my resignation" dated January 1st, 2025, and told him I would go ahead and clean out my office while he got payroll to cut me a check, or if he preferred they could pay me out monthly.

He got a good laugh out of it, and then sent it to the HR Director for "advise on how to proceed". She never really responded but did mention it on my exit interview a few years later when I left the company (2005) by saying "I'm sorry, but you still have 20 years left on your notice, you can't leave yet".
