Eh, I don't like or dislike the guy... but at least the video was somewhat relevant to the thread.

I haven't heard of anyone getting their cars impounded with the 25+ yr old vehicles, not saying it hasn't happened....just saying I haven't read / heard about it.

What loopholes are there even with a 25+ yr old car?

Even though some of the cars are of the legal "age" to bring over, there are quite a few importers that aren't going through the process properly. Companies attempting to cut corners, which helps keep the price of the vehicle down, but brings an associated risk because the process wasn't properly carried out.

Not as much an issue with the 25yr+ cars, but it's still a very real problem. This is more applicable to vehicles that haven't yet reached their mark, like R33s, S15s (there's a story about this), etc.

Yes, this ^

Our mailman has a Legacy RHD wagon he uses for the mail. It has almost 400,000. He just adds oil... Can't believe it still runs. My other friend is a Rural Mail-lady (oxymoron LOL), she has been shopping RHD cars; there are a few out there.

The thing that makes me laugh about this statement is when I see 18yr old kids post it. (Not saying you are)

I see all of these kids complaining about not being able to import a $50,000 R34 Skyline, yet they can't even afford a used $20,000 WRX/Evo.. So why are they bitching in the first place?

I agree, it's a stupid rule, but it is what it is. We can continue to do petitions and all that stuff, but it won't make any difference. If we've learned anything the past couple years, it's that the government really doesn't give half a star spangled damn what the people want.

Truth be told, I still don't get why the hype is as much as it is over some of the cars. I've driven quite a few of them, and a lot of them are cool, but nothing special to me. R32 GTR is a fun little car, but it just feels like a more powerful, heavier S13 silvia.

What's funny though is if I were to buy any Skyline, it would be an R32. I'm not an R33 fan, and while I like the R34, I'm not paying $80,000USD for a 25 year old Nissan with average performance.

There are other cars too, like the FC, AE86, and others that I've driven, but I would never spend the money to import a vehicle that was sold in the US.

S15, JZX100, Evo VI, or STI Ver. V would be on the top of my list to import.

I've driven UK spec vehicles often in continental Europe and vice versa. All I can say is good luck with parking garages and ticket machines.

Many BMW wagons never made it to the states, that niche demand hit hard and fast as soon as 25 years were up, and many snuck in before they were old enough, all the 'deals' left in Europe are gone with cars being priced too high for the average person who wants it after import fees or too beat to be worth the effort of restoring it.

Demuro was a day late and a dollar short on that one, there was a moment in time when you could buy an E30 touring for $3k USD in decent condition and have it here for $8k give or take. Most of those cars got snapped up and I bet he was running out of time to get a car. Japanese cars generally get taken care of a bit better so their used market is a bit more attractive, hell there's some Japanese E30 wagons that got brought over.

http://bringatrailer.com/2016/09/21/...w-e30-touring/

(Fun reading the comments in this one, listed a 1991 Japanese car for sale in 2011... hmm doesn't quite add up to 25 does it?)
http://bringatrailer.com/2011/05/18/...w-e30-touring/

E34 M5 touring, <900 made, this one sold for $56k, at any given time I can find a few E34 M5's worth putting some effort into for <$10k. (Note this car is only 23 years old)

http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1993-bmw-m5-touring/

Every E30 touring that pops up here had to be imported, I daresay there are easily hundreds of them in the U.S. now and a few dozen M5 wagons that snuck in under the guise of being regular M5's.
http://bringatrailer.com/search/?st=&s=bmw+touring

As for the OP, plenty came over as RHD. Certain RHD cars can absolutely be legally put on US roads, but I can't imagine the cost ever being worth it unless it's a car truly important to you. And then there's the practical and safety concerns outlined in the rest of the thread.

All hype, no bite, save your money kid, maybe you can pick up someones 'baby' in a few years when they get tired of it without breaking the bank.
