I kinda like the idea or or engines being known for their crippling. I see a nickname being coined for our cars in the future haha

I for one hope it is just the idler pulley, it's a quick fix versus having to replace a DI pump...

Unhappy

I just hit 2000 miles, as well, and my BRZ has begun chirping. I used a stethoscope to try to track down which pulley it was but couldn't really locate it. It's definitely coming from the driver's side of the engine bay though.

It'd be nice if it were just an idler puller or something like that. Looking forward to hearing if a pulley replacement fixes the issue for you guys.

But if it's injectors, wouldn't they have chirped from the very beginning? What would change over time to start them chirping?

I have the same feeling. DI is going to make more noise but it's going to sound more like a diesel engine (tick-tick vs. cicada/crickets). This chirping sounds mechanical to me.

My main problem with it being "normal" is that why didn't it make that noise for the first 200-300 miles I had it.

It's not normal. Took it to the dealer today and the lead tech guy just had the class Friday. Those cars were not making noise. He did the big long case report. As soon as we drove it in the garage the tech guys were saying there's that cricket noise. They said there has been rumbling around the shop about it. So I will keep this updated when they hear more from scion.

However he did have a print out of the same parts that the guy posted on page 5 of the fuel system stuff so who knows. They also said its pretty sure it's coming from somewhere on the belt system.

I too am experiencing the chirping and feel the problem lies in the belt system, or one of the pulleys. I've been lurking and observing the thread and hope the repair of the idle pulley will solve the problem so I can go to the service department armed with information. I don't exactly have a lot of faith in most of the techs at my dealer due to some past experience with them.

Some of my observations:
While under load, not at idle, when the A/C unit kicks on in addition to the normal click when it engages, I hear a faint chirp that is reminiscent of the chirp I hear intermittently while at idle.
While at idle, if I turn the car off the chirp slows down as the engine slows and stops. This suggests the belt system to me as well, as I don't think the injectors would be operating with the key off.

My two cents, cause that what the internet needs... more opinions.

The fuel pump is cam-driven, which would continue to operate on engine shut off

It will be interesting to see how this "chirping" gets resolved.
