A high speed card is not going to die when written slowly, nor is it going to fragment more unless there is some terrible firmware in the sdcard. Fragmentation comes with writing many files over time. All that does is hurt performance, which can easily be restored with a reformat. My guess is that the guy at Best Buy said something to you about this.

Flash cards typically die abruptly, unlike hard drives, which often slowly degrade, but that's because of solid state vs mechanical failure. I've had hard drives just die on me. Ssd and flash too.

Going to attempt to stay up for the whole day in order to adjust sleep schedule for the roadtrip, eventually hoping to pass out around 9pm.

Also, after looking at Wal-Mart.com to see if I could get a card locally(faster than shipping) it looks like they stock almost entirely class 10 cards. This leads me to believe that class 10 is give to use in a phone otherwise everyone would be having problems right?

Android will try to use the sdcard unless you've told it not to. And it will still want to index music or movies and stuff so will be doing things with it.

Get a good Lexar or Sandisk UHS1 or better. Not just Class10. Walmart may not be the place to shop...

I have a Samsung card so it's not cheap Chinese crap. Locally Walmart is the only place to shop. If I drive an hour I can get Best Buy, Target, etc but then I might as well order one.

I put the trouble card in my GFs S5 and it read it right away so I formatted it. My Note3 can read it now, I'll just have to download my movies again. I really wanted to watch American Sniper today too...

I stay with the older models to keep cost down. I don't need the processing power and 74mp camera in a brand new phone. If I always stay a few years behind then a "new" phone will be an upgrade for me just like a NEW phone is for you, but for hundreds of dollars less. That's race car parts right there ya know

Good deal. I'm actually unsure of that phone would use the higher speed, probably can. Samsung is definitely not bad. I watch what I put in my cameras and apply the same rules to the phone.

Frustrating when it happens. It took me three panicked days to track down my phone troubles... My train ticket is on the phone, so a reboot at the wrong time wouldn't be fun.

We will see. I probably should upgrade soon though. I've already had one app get upgraded and won't work any more. My brother finds them regularly but he has the S3. It's a shame to upgrade when this phone seems to work fine 99% of the time
