Another nice PR bump, this from Jalopnik:

Guess what the writer commends to the enquirer?

Yea, I was surprised to read that. His exact words were "dead fucking last" when he reviewed the FR-S against the NC Miata and Genesis Coupe. I was particularly annoyed at his assessment because his video review was reasonably even keel at the same event. Then it was daggers out for the text review.

FYI to the Canadian guys on here: My Subaru dealer called me and told me yesterday that Canada would be getting a special edition BRZ in January. One for every dealer.

I am not certain of the validity of this at all. My dealer didn't offer any documentation. They just said that they "heard it through the grape vine".

Interesting to say the least.

They are correct. Was talking to the local dealer last week (on my quest for the padded dash pads) and the sales manager said that each Canadian dealer has been allotted one yellow edition car. He also said that he has called around and every person he has talked to in Ontario already has the car sold on preorder so the odds of just walking into a place and getting it are pretty low. There are only 500 total made and Canada only gets a bit over 10% so they will be rare.

And there is the question as to whether it will actually be equipped the same as a US Series Yellow. I recall someone (it may have been you actually) mentioning that for one of the earlier special editions when it finally made it up here it was not mechanically equivalent, but was instead merely an appearance package. Got a call into Subaru Canada to find out as the dealers don't know.

The RS1 did not include the lowering springs in Canada.

In reality all the special editions are really just appearance packages anyway. The Brembo brakes on the Series Yellow will be the first real "performance" enchantment to a special and even then that only has value if you are actually tracking the car.

Yeah, very surprised to read this.
It was as if Jack (and most of TTAC) liked to play contrarian on the Twins. Even to the point of rating the Genesis coupe higher!

The Sachs should make a difference even off-track. One of those "Best Motoring" style video reviews was posted here in which the tester drove both the Sachs-equipped and regular 2017s hard on some closed country roads and he stated that the Sachs made a big difference in the way the car felt on road (according to the translation someone gave after the video was posted - IIRC the phrase was "completely different").

Agreed the brake upgrade is mostly for the track, where they should be very helpful; even the regular brakes weren't much of a problem for Jack on his track day, so the Brembos should be fine for a day of fun with standard fluid and pads.

Subaru Canada won't release any info on the SY yet- my contact there talked to the brand manager for the car. No price or date of release.

The Sachs may make a difference but nothing massive to the average driver using the car strictly on the streets. Not everybody is a pro driver that can truly tell the difference even if they think they are. If they make a huge difference on your daily commute then you need to revisit how you are driving on a public road. The brakes will make a huge difference on the track.

Yes, the guy I talked to said they were getting one and that is all they have been told so far. No date or price has been set. Odds are that if they are mostly ordered already then there could be a dealer mark up applied anyway so whatever sticker price they give it could be completely meaningless.

The Best Motoring guy was by no means sliding the car around, just the occasional tire chirp, still noticed a big difference. So on a back road blast a decent driver should expect to notice something. Hopefully someone will do a direct comparison once the PP is out there.

Dealer confirmed that the Canadian special edition would be yellow, but could not confirm anything else. I suspect it will be the same as the US model.

Those are the STI BRZ wheels?

Anyways, tat front lip looks perfect on both the 86/BRZ. I'll probably pick it up in the future, however I'll probably paint mine to match the car

Yes the STI BRZ wheels from Japan come in either silver, gunmetal, or black, 17" at 7J or 7.5J (7J didn't exist when I bought mine), 18" at 7.5J. I think here you can only get 17" black @ 7J width.

The RS 2.0 lip looks nice too as I don't think the STI lip fits the FRS bumper?
