OFT+OFH emissions
Have the OFH and the OFT wondering about how you guys pass emissions.
I still have the rear cat in my car. I want to know if there's a way to pass without having to put the stock header back on. |

it all depends on your local/state emissions laws. Some states do a visual check to verify the cats are still there. Some states purely plug into your obdII to check for error codes. Some use a sniffer. Up to you to check how they do it locally.
You always hear stories as well about finding the right shop where you can just slip them some money and any car will pass.....

I just had an inspection done yesterday with a similar setup. I'm running EL headers, tune and E85 and passed no problem. Just make sure they don't rev your engine too much.

uncatted header, oft, stock front pipe. just received my new sticker in the mail so it 'should' work for you as well. i began to shit a brick when dude was spending an inordinate amount of time looking under the hood. come to find out he was looking because he 'never' has seen a twin with subaru stamps all over it. like checking the VIN of the hood, engine block, door sill. wth?

furthermore, with a '16 if you bought car in last summer, new vehicles in texas used to be able to go first 2 years before another inspection. your current sticker may say 8-17

Yea you should be fine for the most part as long as they don't do a visual inspection. But even so full catless guys NA or with Forced Induction can pass. Last year I was running OFT+OFH on E85 and passed no problems. Granted I did do it at work but the machine didn't fail it for anything. The general rule of thumb here aside from exhaust is no CEL but also only 1 not ready status on the readiness monitor. I've heard someone recommend a place in Denton when a friend got concerned but he passed on his setup.

When I lived in DFW I had no problems with my catless Legacy GT and emissions. Just make sure that you don't have a CEL and that your readiness monitors are good as @JonAvalon said. It may have helped that I had the stock catback so things looked pretty stock so no-one went poking around either but I doubt that mattered much. I had success both at a random shop in Garland and at multiple NTBs. Even when I failed the safety part for not enough tread on the tires no one ever said anything about the exhaust.

So bottom line is: all your emissions systems should be reporting "ready", and you shouldn't have a CEL. So you should pass with no problems at all. |

Texas is pretty liberal in letting you pass despite killing polar bears and the environment. So you should be good to go. I have the nameless performance headers, and a high flow cat in the front pipe and I passed. No worries.
