Chirp chirp chirp

CICADAS!
FR-S with 500 miles started chirps at idle, regular time and as loud or louder than other mechanical or fifi sounds. Couldn't see a belt or pulley issue. If/when someone has a fix at Scion I want hear about it - please.

I just read through this entire thread.

My thanks to those who stuck with it, got real info and results from their dealers, and posted it for the rest of us.

Do we have a separate thread or sub-thread for TSBs? If not, we should have one asap. Then, when the TSBs start to filter down to us, we can post them. In the meantime, people will get used to the idea that we have a thread or a sub-thread containing mfr. documents and responses to problems.

I've noticed this on my BRZ which just hit about 480 miles, will definitely be taking the car into the dealer just to get it into the system even if they don't do anything right away.

Heres videos of NORMAL direct injection noise. Clicking sounds. No chirping. I can tell you first hand GM's 2.0l 4s make the same clicking noise as well and don't chirp.

Mazdaspeed 3, since its been brought up.

Hyundai Sonata

Its kind of embarrassing to be driving a brand-new car that chirps/squeaks. The clicking isn't nearly as audible as the chirping.

My car has made the "chirp" since the first 100 miles. I waited until the master tech at Subaru of Keene attended SNE's BRZ school, which happened last week.

He checked it out Friday and confirmed that the noise is coming from the idler pulley between the AC and the WP. The part is 4 days out, but will be installed as soon as it arrives. I'll post up the result.

With the number of mentions of this annoyance, I expect that it will be addressed with a TSB and possibly a recall. As has been discussed ad nauseam here already, yes the DI is noisy, but the cricket sound is something altogether different and needs to be exterminated.

Thanks ^^

I hope the tech is correct, as my crude stethoscope (really long screwdriver) isolated it to that idler too. Should have a new one by the end of the week.

Well that is a different response then the guy got from the dealer on page 5. I'm wondering which one it is. The noise to me seems like its going on the right side of the motor if you are facing it.

It's hardly noticeable from the interior but mine chirps a little too.
It's not loud enough to be annoying though.

I'm pretty sure the dealer is accurate is saying Scion is aware... I mean, would Scion REALLY authorize a warranty repair of this cost (parts/labor) simply from visual inspection?

And we'll find out if it fixes after the repair...
How can an enclosed fuel system with a pump chirp?

The chirp is not at the pump location correct?
Isn't the pump in the fuel tank like most cars?
