If it ain't one thing it is another.
I'm in the same category. I just did it anyway and hid the shovels. My oldest son's wife blew it for me. It went like this,

Son's wife: "so I hear you got a supercharger?"

Wife: "WTF?"

Me: " Well honey I told you I was thinking about it."

Wife: " well, when does it come?"

Me: "last Thursday."

Can't repeat exactly what my wife said then, but it ended with, "I'm so going shopping!" Cost me about a grand at Macy's, but worth it.

lol

I play the long game with my wife. I start talking about what I want to buy about 6 months in advance. I mention it weekly, pretend I'm going to pull the trigger 2 months in. Keep mentioning and stay "undecided". By 6 months in, she just says, "you've been looking at it forever -- just buy it." A lot of bicycles have been purchased this way and my FR-S was purchased this way.

Exactly why I started talking about getting a Porsche Cayman right after I bought my FR-S in 2013. She knows it's inevitable.

Light mods for now. Turbo is down the line after the warranty is up or get me a M2 and keep the motor stock on the FRS.

I want super heavy engine mods, im willing to go as far as engine swap or rebuild with forged internals but I want the literal definition of a sleeper. Stock inside and out and even wheels and tires as long as they will hold out. Goals are a 500hp frs.

Light mods for me...

TRD wheels, TRD springs, TRD catback, TRD intake.

No hassles with California smog tests or dealer service, and as a plus should not negatively affect resale value.

The only non TRD mod I did was a Volkswagon Sharan stubby antenna so my car cover works... though I may ultimately swap out for an OEM shark fin.

Started out with cosmetic mods only from 2012 to 2014 and thought that was it.The biggest thing was a 5:AD body kit which was on another car briefly. I paid the seller ( a Lexus tech) to install it in my garage.

Then jumped on a supercharger used which as it turned out was actually a mistake on my part and due to some issues and a mistake I made ended up replacing the blower part of the kit with a new one. That was an expensive error. Since then added supporting mods, brakes, tires, wheels, etc. The one plus with the used kit it a much bigger intercooler so I could remove the boost restrictor.

Just bought coilovers.

The only other thing I need now is to get new oil lines and fittings so the oil cooler can be hooked up.

If I listed everything, probably have 30 or more mods.

I will then focus on autocross/time attack but not until the oil cooler issue is resolved. That will probably be done over the winter as I don't enjoy taking the bumper on and off particularly.

I like the phrase "track weapon". This will be a (no winters) daily/ track weapon.

Mine is a driver, I like it just the way it is. I have a hot rod and an antique to wrench on when I want. That's enough.
