It's funny how fast you get used to more power.

My 2ZZ Spyder with a stock ECU should have something like 185bhp, with 2200lbs makes it the fastest car I've had. First thing I noticed was "wow, 1.8L feels much torquier here than the 2L in the FR-S".

Then I started winding it out to 8000rpm, and got pretty excited by that.

Today I was driving it around and winding it out, and I realized that I no longer perceived the car as being fast, nor did the higher rev limit get me excited. That said, I do notice that I am able to zoom past most other cars a lot faster than normal (something the FR-S couldn't do). I have driven this car maybe 10 times total and haven't had it for a full month yet.

Time to start saving up for that K20 swap...maybe another 50hp will satisfy me. Or maybe I'll grow to respect the car on the track. The previous owner was a track instructor at Thunderhill and he said his stock C7 Vette is slower than this car (although this car does have slicks on it).

I'm walking the former along with a few comrades since the beginning of this year. We got the best severance package terms in the history of the company. Haven't found another gig yet but seeing how my old team is living in a shithole day in and day out still, sometimes I'm glad I got out early.

The rest of my old floor are getting the axe by the end of next month save for my old team which will probably get outsourced altogether soon.

Thanks for the insight. I'm debating on whether trying out to see if the grass is really greener on the other side. Benefits are great, pay is decent for a single 24 year old with no degree and a few certs, but the culture sucks. Well, our division, if you will.

I'm giving it one more year, just to save a shit ton of money, then I'll see how I'm feeling come this time next year and if things improve. At the very least, I'm giving night shift 1 more year. People, and myself, is starting to notice I'm having trouble speaking and memory is going to shit.

This is essentially the basic corporate playbook for telltale signs to get out:

1) Cites that there is a critical inefficiency in the way the company is currently doing things, as it is causing a big dent on its balance sheets and shareholders are pissed.

2) Hires a well known business consulting firm to analyze said inefficiencies, these clueless ivy league MBAs with no fundamental understanding of the client's business will try and and quantify absolutely everything into a bunch of hard numbers.

3) Implements a bunch of bullshit process changes using twisted Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to basically turn an office environment into a Toyota factory assembly line, which in turn wrecks productivity and destroys morale as no work gets properly done in the end.

4) Deems further cost saving measures are required with resource actions such as early retirements, layoffs, rearranging the corporate structure by shuffling all the deck chairs to give an impression that they are moving in the right direction.

5) Pushes more people out by causing great inconveniences to the workers such as banning work from home, turning every office into a flexspace so nobody gets their own desk or even privacy by removing all partitions cuz the workplace should be a kindergarten, and finally consolidate office locations to the point that people can no longer commute the vast distances from their homes without either a diesel or physically move.

6) Declares all efforts to keep the company in the green have failed and points finger at the consultants saying it's all their fault. To save face, the consultants whose real purpose all along was to act as window dressing for management, hammers in the final nail by outsourcing all workhorse staff to a 3rd World Country where the same amount of money can hire 3 times the number of monkeys that can only speak some foreign dialect.

7) Cooks the books for the annual shareholder meeting to announce the year has been a great success after all, big dividend payouts and everyone gets a fizz in their drinks.

Research is one thing but this whole "which one should I buy?" thing baffles me. Even more so when the replies all get debated by the person asking the question.


So what should I have for lunch today? Hamburger or a hot dog?
