Which cost just about or more as the Alcantara

Which remind me in a very funny way, people arguing about the trim piece and

Then there's the early BRZ people with the silver plastic

Now that I think we can all agree was terrible, even the patterned 13 FRS piece was nicer imho.
I don't care what it costs so long as it looks good. I don't want my dash to look like a couch. I want it to look sleek and hard. I also like the silver accents. The whole dash being silver is too much but I like the accents. Could they have been brushed aluminum like some if the parts in a Z? Yeah, but it could have cost as much as a Z too so I'm not going to complain about "cheap"plastic. Cheap plastic comes in cheap cars. Real carbon fiber dash trim comes in cars I can't afford, therefore, I'll take the plastic

Meanwhile at Toyota

Hmm how to make car sell better to Americans, I know Americans love cows! And they love foot ball and couches

Let's make the interior Comfortable and make People Happy, we can't do what we did in the 90s anymore Americans demand better value less Plastic soft touch USB cup holders car already drive good no need to
Change that !

And they don't wanna pay a lot for anything! Demand but no pay!

Let's give em something nice and call it a day, what's that we already have it for our Japanese cars? Great let's put it in

Well do little to the car and charge alittle more for interior trim

We don't care what some people think we sell more car to everybody else

Banzai!

Someone told me recently at a store that there would be bunch of students who would love to custom make an item for me at the local university of art and design.

I was willing to pay someone equivalent to 2 weeks wage just for at most a couple days work. I was a bit disappointed at the last open house as it appeared a couple of the students didn't even know what they wanted.

Wrong. The vegans are gonna HATE me for this! The animals are used up completely and not "harmed" other than being killed in a regulated and very humane manner but they were born for that in the first place. It isn't like they kill a cow, pull the skin and throw the rest in a river. They are also a renewable resource and most of their byproducts (manure) is used to grow even more food.

Plastics on the other hand require the processing and depletion of materials such as oil and other non renewable resources. The plastic industry uses some of the nastiest chemical ever invented and can be moments away from creating a massive natural disaster at any point. To think that leather has a worse environmental impact than plastic is way off base.

I don't know how many times I've offered to pay people whatever they wanted to make some silly custom thing for me. No one is interested if it can't be picked off a menu of colors

Agree with Tcoat. They aren't eating any portion of the cow(that would be wasting money) so the usage of leather isn't going to make a difference. We will eat the cow whether the leather sells or not

The irony is that back when all cars had leather or cloth they kept running short of hides. This in turned pushed the price of the leather up which resulted in them inventing all sorts of plastic artificial leather. I am old enough to remember when the car companies (and many others) made a big deal that they were using naugahyde and it was considered BETTER than leather.

Holy crap is that a toddler Kurt Cobain?

If this is a trap, then what ever. Nice hide though.

Sort of looks like Kurt Cobain, but all I recall for those who remember, was his mother-in-law was an exotic dancer.

The irony is, that was made by Uniroyal- one of history's crappier tire companies.

Say what, “...one of history's crappier tire companies” REALLY?

Care to back up that statement?

Or, are you going to follow others who claim it’s your opinion and will not discuss it further?????

According to wikipedia they seemed to struggle financially ever since WW2. Dunno if their tires were good but I suppose not enough people were buying them

I'm not going to stop eating steak anytime soon. Might as well make sure that the cow's skin isn't going to waste. I love my leather/alcantara seats.
Funny that some of the first carbon fiber consumer products I've owned back in the 90's didn't have that weave pattern on them, just matte black finish and were bought due to lightweight. For looks they would just have a painted finish (e.g. Sony D-777 Discman lid).

I think it was not until after Y2K when I started coming across carbon fiber stuff with a clear resin (mostly bicycle parts).

It's like the matte silver painted trim in my BRZ I guess Subaru wanted to mimic an aluminum finish (tacky imo after seeing real brushed aluminum trim in my gf's old Lexus).

Do we even have real leather in the BRZ? It sure feels synthetic to me.

To the Toyota employee reading this thread:

The 86, like the FR-S, is a fantastic little car. I know the changes have been minimal, but it feels like a much nicer car. Resist the temptation to make it uglier for Fast and Furious morons.
