LED better then HID?

this is actually brighter then my HIDs? should i get rid of my HIDs in low beam and LED in high beam (just for DRL) and replace with these??

As with all lights in the front of your car, they are only as effective as the housing they are in. If a housing is not built for an LED bulb, the usable light output will actually be lower than using the bulb that the housing was designed for.

well i retrofitted to mini h1 projectors and ya i def understand the difference bc my HIDs were much better after that mod. but they also heat up and keep killing all my dam Halos

keep in mind that lumen rating is not the only spec that matters. you can have a high lumen bulb, but have poor projection which ultimately leads to poorer visibility compared to a lower lumens system but with proper design.

buy a 35w H1 HID kit from TRS. I recommend a bulb temp of 5000k for a nice white look.

thats what I'm running now actually and looks great, but the heat kills every set of halos i run within 7 months so was hoping i finally found a fix

the problem with LED bulbs compared to HID bulbs is that the light intensity coming from the bulb is different between LED and HID. once that light is reflected onto the bowl and into the projector, it will shift the hot spots of the headlights and will either make the projection worse or have minimal effect.

if you don't mind the possibility of decreased visibility and light, then using an LED bulb will be fine. it's not like using an LED bulb will blow up your car lol. it's up to you on how you want to set your priorities. also, maybe an LED bulb might not even be that much different from your HID bulb, who knows. you won't know for sure until you try it out.

If I understand correctly, the 2017's have LED headlights. I still don't know for certain if the main headlight is LED or if they are just referring to the DRL + turn signal, but if it's the low/high beam then you could possibly retrofit those housings onto your car if you really wanted LED headlights..

@Manic has http://www.modbargains.com/morimoto-...-scion-frs.htm in his low beams, and I'm running the same bulbs in my high beam (because I did a retrofit).

I was pretty impressed with his headlights...I know he's got an output photo somewhere on here.

I've been pretty pleased. All LEDs are not made equal though. Granted, even my kit could have a brighter/more focused hot spot, but it's still miles better than the stock halogens. It all comes down to where the LEDs lie on the unit to appropriately match the halogen filament's position.

Yessir, projectors are unmodified. Now obviously there's the concern of blinding oncoming motorists as this was a common issue for people running HIDs in stock projectors, but I haven't noticed anything of the sort with the Morimoto 2Strokes.

Here's a photo of my cutoff. Granted, I'm much closer to the wall than I should be:


Now here's someone with HIDs in unmodified stock projectors taken from roughly the same distance as I was.


As you can see, the "squirrel-finder" pattern (the primary culprit of blinding oncoming motorists) is much tighter with my 2Strokes than the non-retrofitted HIDs.

If your HIDs currently aren't as bright as that OLM LED kit you linked, than they certainly aren't as bright as the 2Strokes.
