i had a deposit at sunnyvale toyota... i did not like my experience with the dealer i was working with because i knew more about the car than he did and i had to call him to get updates... once the cars came in he tried to sell me a color and transmission i didnt want... only good thing is getting my deposit was fast... the $2.5k market adjustedment that stevens creek subaru is charging is better then the $3k they wanted to charge me to preorder it 3 months ago... i still dont agree with it

Basically no one in the bay area is right now except Livermore and they are not taking any more orders... they've sold out their allocation for 2012 and don't want to take any more for fear of disappointing/upsetting people who will almost certainly have to wait until 2013 for their cars.

Modesto subaru is also selling at MSRP and they ARE taking orders, but they only get 4 for this year and all 4 are sold. So you're waiting until 2013 and they probably don't have much allocation. I suppose if they got a lot of preorders their allocation might improve but you're taking a chance there of waiting longer... i think the guy said they have 3 pre orders already for 2013.

Napa subaru has one in their showroom as of yesterday, WRB Limited AT, with some port addons... pop1b, gas lid, bumper applique. the guy was vague but said they were asking $2-4K markup, perhaps negotiable.

If I absolutely WANTED to have one right now (and realistically, no one NEEDS this car, this is a toy or luxury item), I would keep calling around to see who has the car on the lot, and try to negotiate down the markup as much as possible. There is just too much demand and not enough supply to find available cars at MSRP in the area right now. If you can wait... then save some money and wait. I am trying to be patient and I really don't need another car, so I won't pay over MSRP on principle. Paying over MSRP just enables/justifies the dealers to markup the next time and every time a "hot" new car arrives.

None that I could find.

Other BA dealers will have it for MSRP. Juicyjosh from City Toyota/Scion has been selling his for a great price from what I've seen. Piercy Toyota is reputable as well!
You're right, some of it is the buyers responsibility. It does keep hard working ethusiats (such as myself) from finding cars at the correct price, that's what irritates me the most.

You must have talked to someone different that I did. The girl I worked with knew plenty about the car and was realistic that she wouldn't get me an allocation until late summer.

Positive:
They said they will sell at MSRP. No markups

Negative:
they ask for $1000 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit to reserve it.
Car has several port options that made me turn it down.
- the Popular package 1 (he didn't say a or b, but assume 1b)
- chrome gas cap
- rear body diffuser (yeah the $750 option).

if it didn't have the last 2 I would probably have gone for it.
total MSRP price $29707.
Apparently it's spoken for now.

I just watched the ship carrying my car leave the bay area. Guess they're done unloading. My guess is that a whole bunch of new FR-S are about to hit dealers. Keep an eye out!

If you call him, he can get your information and let you know when they get anything at all, you can even tell him your preferences. If you don't want it with leather he can let you know when they will have one without it. It's not up to him to decide whether or not to install leather in a car unfortunately.
If it didn't have that BS leather installed it would have sold itself...

At my dealer here in Redding we have sold out our next two allocation units because we don't charge anything over mrsp or load the car up with accessories... we take only a fully refundable deposits...and the customer gets to choose from a few colors and gets their transmission choice...If you want to add stuff like the FiveAxis kit, Bespoke or wheels we can do that but we wont add it unless you want it....we have one car left in our allocations for the year if anyone is interested contact me
