Assuming we're talking street driving here. If you have traction issues on stock tyres, you're going a little too hard and possibly driving recklessly.

Don't mean to be a killjoy, but there's a lot to like about the stock tyres and I'd argue they would be of greater benefit for someone new to the platform, seeing as they break away more gradually, than some of the higher performance options.

Id rather the majority of young and less experienced drivers wear out the stock ones prior to looking to sticker performance oriented tyres. Again all assuming we are talking regular street daily driving and not something more performance focused like canyon carving, auto cross etc...

Yeah fair points.
My opinion is based on the fact that he is still on L plates. He still has alot of learning to do and some "oh shit" moments ahead even if he isnt pushing it.

Grip, better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

As far as "breaking away more gradually", only if he turns off the VSC/TRC.

Learn on the stockers then upgrade when they are at the wear mark. It's a wear item and the best single upgrade you can make on the car. So why not trash the stocks on tracks and autocross like many have and then get a half decent set of summer tires for WAY cheaper then the stock tires and get more grip at the same time.

I disagree, these stock tires are trash. In the rain I have lost tractions taking 5mph wide left turns. Any time you find yourself needing to catch speed quick in a situation such as hopping onto a fast feeder, you will most certainly lose traction while turning. In conclusion you don't have to drive like an ass to lose traction. I recommend buying new wheels/tires asap
