What should I do to my first 86?

Seat time like so many have said. Also when moding be mindful of what may impact on road worthiness.

Simple stuff like minimum legal ground clearance, which from memory in NSW, is 10cm and realize that the stock ground clearance is 12.5cm. Check if any different with your own state.

Some mods will impact on your car insurance so you might want to speak with your insurer. Audio, cosmetics, wheels and tires are fine, but headers and custom tune might not be.

Our beloved twin's can be sensitive to the smallest of changes so research and read up on other peoples experiences or you may end up regretting some mods you never thought you would in the start.

Exhaust. Get the car sounding great. Don't need to be loud, just more aggressive. Love my TRD cat-back, even though it is on the costly side. Plus it fills the rear cutout for the exhaust tips, so it's cosmetic as well .

OHHHH dude be careful of this trap! They are referring to TRD USA exhaust. They are expensive here and I hate to think what they would cost there once you add in exchange and shipping. Keep in mind that when the majority of the people on here answer they are going to give you ideas and costs as available in North America and these may not be even close to what the reality is there.

Can't believe nobody mentioned How To: Free Clutch Spring Removal in 15 Minutes - A must do for manual trans!

It improves clutch pedal feel and makes the car more engaging. Best part is it's FREE and 100% reversible (provided you don't lose the tiny “E” clip). It will make the clutch pedal a little heavier (I hardly noticed it) but if you are in stop and go traffic all the time you might consider not doing it (I still would).

Gratz! Despite what ppl says about you needing mods/more power etc, ignore those first & drive the car as is & take it to a track/autocross/drift learning session ALL STOCK.

Then you start modding. It really is a nice car out of box, this way you will have a very good idea on what you wanna mod down the road.

Like others have already said, driving your car will probably be the best investment at the moment (and its free!). I put on a Borla axleback for about $600 cdn from Amazon. Adds nice sound, fills out the cutouts, not too loud, no drone. There are other axlebacks out there as well.

And I seriously hope for a red light at every intersection now.

Just got mine about 6 months ago. So far i have done these mods in order...
Perrin full intake (2 days after purchase, full bumper removal is fun!)
Window tint (gets hot in san diego)
Powered by max coilovers

I drove with the stock suspension for almost 3 months, not that i wanted to but the shop was alwys closed on weekemds so it was hard to get there in time during the week. Anyway, it turned out for the better because i got a good feel for the car with stock suspension. It made me more confident in my choice with the pbm coils, they ride incredible and just barely changed thenchaacteristics of the handling. It rotates quickly but gradually, not sudden like stock.

Next is wheels and i have pbm rear lower arms waiting to go on incase the wheels need rear camber to clear. I intend on a really aggressive set of 17x9 so... we shall see.

Then i need an el header and openflash. After that? Who knows. Megan tie rods for more angle? Maybe a nice 2 way lsd?

What are your intentions for the car? Fun daily? Drifting? Track time? You can build a well rounded car to do all of these things. Thats kind of my intention.

Good luck and be prepared to spend truckloads of cash!

Very very difficult from what ive seen to get it out on a right hand drive car. I spent a couple of hours reading and looking and fiddling trying to figure out how to get it out on a right hand drive 86. But its harder to get access to the clip :/

Jayden, i know you said cosmetic but, make sure you have some decent rubber on it before you spend a cent on anything else. Last thing a P plater needs is a car that slides around.
