Fire Extinguisher in Trunk
Seen a good bit mounted on the seat brackets and center console. I have a 50% stripped trunk. Has anyone seen any mounts to go where the spare tire is or anywhere in the trunk or am I gonna have to do some custom work here lol

That will do nicely. Glad to see you put it in the trunk instead of the passenger compartment since they can become a deadly missle in the event of a serious crash.

Keep us in the loop with whatever you end up doing.
I have always kept an FE in all of my cars until the BRZ, I just couldn't find a spot in the trunk that wasn't super obtrusive. |

I left the spare tire out when I did the rear strut brace cause racecar. Ima head to hardware store with the bolt that holds in the spare tire. Get a flat headed bolt so it doesnt dig into the extinguisher and mount that bracket right to the center. Not in a hurry to do this so itll be one of those it gets done when it gets done lol

This how I mounted my fire extinguisher in the trunk. I used a "c nut" to replace one of the plastic clips that help hold the driver side trunk panel down. Then I bolted a fire extinguisher mount to this "c clip". The fire extinguisher is now secure and out of the way. The seats still fold down without issue. I stole this idea from how OEM Audio mounts their subwoofer.

http://cache-m2.smarthome.com/manuals/7988.pdf My only beef with it is the lack of a pressure gauge. No way to inspect it for serviceability.

The whole point of having a fire extinguisher in the car is to have it immediately accessible to the driver in the event that it is needed. Putting it in the trunk pretty much defeats the purpose of having it in the car.
Also, if it is properly mounted, you shouldn't have to worry about it ever coming loose and becoming a "missile". The only real concern would be from a passenger hitting their leg/foot on it during an accident and injuring themselves further. That is why you don't put fire extinguishers in street cars. Same thing with roll cages, they are meant to be used in conjunction with helmets and could do more harm than good in an accident on a street car. |
