aFe Takeda is similar... stop and go is OK, but agreed on the lack on benefits. sounds nice, but without a MAF tune, not going to see anything else.

Agree with Intake mod.
I have an aFe Takeda and there's nothing wrong with it, but for the price I should have just got a drop in filter. Especially seeing as I'm going to probably put the stock intake back on when I supercharge anyhow. |

Red rally flaps with stock width wheels. Just looked weird proportion and colour wise. The winter benefits were amazing though so much mud, slush, snow, ice and salt block. Took them off after the winter season, back to stock splash guards. I just deal with the spray when I hit the gravel roads, which is quite a bit.

My 17x9 Enkei RPF1 wheels.
Don't get me wrong I like the way they look. But I miss the flowy light feeling that you don't get now with a 235 or 245 tyre. When I get a chance I'm probably going to sell the Enkei's and pick up some OZ Ultraleggera 17x8s and run a 225 summer tyre. |

Heat soak severely reduced throttle response and acceleration. My intake temp reading via my Scan Gauge II actually read much higher with the Injen intake. I can't remember the exact readings, but in stop and go traffic, I believe it was easily 20 to 30 degrees higher than the stock box with K&N drop in. I could floor it in 1st gear, and the engine will hesitate. RPM's would go up, and then the engine would act like it's about to stall, then repeat. Car doesn't move forward. So not only did it make stop and go horrible since the car would only move forward with only a slight throttle at most, I felt unsafe since I wouldn't be able to get out of the way in an emergency.

This was puzzling me a bit for some time. There is a reputable company in Japan saying that a lightweight crank pulley kit works and there are users saying the same like you. That it is a complete waste of money.
I tried to model the weight reduction of a LWP and calculate the gains from the moment of inertia. Fact is that the gains are very small to be noticable. However, the claims of the Japanese company are not wrong. Here is some conclusions: - You need to change the pulleys with a stiff material. Original pulleys are made from cast iron and they deform slightly with rotation. You can imagine material deformation as an additional parameter in the moment of inertia law. Only the OEM crank pulley might deform much more, because of the included rubber structure. Companies are using for the LWP the cheap 6061 aluminum with a yield strength of 240 MPa. This material seems to not provide enough stiffness. There is a much harder aluminum with a yield strength of 500 MPa, but it is very expensive. - You need a kit of at least 3 pulleys (crank, alternator, water) and not just a crank pulley. Companies are providing usually only the crank pulley because it is cheaper and easier to install. - You need to under-drive the system. Usually, this can be done with under-driving the alternator. My findings were that each of the above can provide small gains and all of them in combination could provide a sufficient gain which is noticeable. Fact is that very few manufacturers provide such solution. Last edited by nikitopo; 08-22-2016 at 08:00 AM. |
