First off, anyone who wants the performance package please wait to get it. I can't say my source or any specifics, but you'll be kicking yourself very soon if you order a non pp right now expecting them to take a long time to release it. I already know when mine will arrive and I'll update you guys when I am allowed to. You may be able to find a way to order one also, but I can't disclose how I did.

Second, do not pay more than invoice for this car in any variety. I've heard all kinds of dealers say anything from to 'It's a really hot car, so giving it to you at sticker is a really good deal. Most people are marking them up' to, 'Invoice? I'll do $250 below invoice'. There is no shortage of dealers who will do invoice or even below, so shop around if you aren't getting that. Demand is not high for these cars. It's an amazing bargain of a car, but the only people who are buying them are on this thread. Most sales people haven't even had anyone ask them about them yet and are totally clueless. I am in southern california btw.
I've never bought a new car before, how do I bring up the pricing and how do I tell them I want I invoice pricing without sounding like a novice? If I order one I've gotta put a 1k deposit on it so I'd like to have already talked about the pricing.

Interesting since a poster who is a dealer here says you can't even see the option PP to order right now.

That's why I think it might be regional, since I've been able to get firm dates on PP packages out west (just this week).

Tough one, well just ask first off. Let me know how it goes at the place I told you. And if they won't give you good pricing I'll ask my family person at other dealer and see if they'll accommodate you if you order. I believe for my case I can get invoice if the car arrives to lot and I have to pay stuff on top of I want to order. So we will see.

I'm not making any decisions till I can get pricing on Toyota side, which I don't get why they're taking so long.

Yeah, I find that odd that we are already in the middle of August and they are still silent on the Toyota side. Not like it will matter to me but for those on the fence of getting an 86 it would sure help if they at least advised of a firm eta. Zaku, is there any reason why you're holding out besides pricing for an 86? Is it the looks? Toyota preference?

Good Question, First I have no bias towards any Manufacturer I appreciate that they both make this car great. This goes the same for the looks, alot of people dislike the new 86 because they don't like the front. But Most of the people I've met and they have seen the car in person @goldenfri for example all thought it's very nice. It's not a very photogenic car I suppose.

The biggest reason to hold out is that Performance Package. For the Subaru you have to buy the Limited Trim or the Special Yellow to get it. Imagine if Toyota released the 86 and you have the option for the brembo with the stock wheel, the brembo with the performance wheel, just the performance wheel. Etc. You would essentially have the ability to buy a car without all the extras stuff with the PP. That was what alot of people were a bit upset about, the fact that you can't get a BRZ premium with the PP. you have to pay that extra 2K ish to up yourself to a limited.

If you're someone like me who don't really care for the extras and you would like the option for a PP and 86 give you the option.

Wouldn't the Toyota Appeal to you too?Especially if it's priced lower than a BRZ limited

I have some good evidence that the 86 is offered with PP in Japan already, so I'm hoping for this best case scenario.

I'm willing to wait on this possibility. *tiny glimmer of hope* this is also because all the BRZ with PP that have been shown are also the top models, Limited in trim etc.

The Toyota even in this picture below, have always been shown in a lower trim. We'll have to wait and see. I hope the hold up is just them taking their time figuring out how to give people PP etc.

yes, there's a good chance his screen doesn't show PP because they've exhausted allocable PP orders.

Yeah, now that Scion is gone I wouldn't have any biases towards getting an 86. I'm actually optimistic the 86 looks better in person than images, since judging from YouTube videos of it I can tell it looks better with a front plate covering the nose and when it's actually moving lol. Unfortunately, my three months without a car has really tested my patience. So BRZ was the only way to go.

But hey, if you do decide to get an 86 plus their variation of a PP (if offered) then you'll save a ton of money. Good for all who can afford to wait on Toyota.

Lol yah! and it's funny because it's the same PP package just the wheels have different logo. The cars are schedule to arrive on lots just about a week apart from eachother from my sources. It's just weird they're nothing, oh well. For me it's Price but from what I'm getting is that most of the Subaru that are arriving in my area is a Limited.

No Premiums at all at least to my knowledge atm.

Wait, the Toyota will also have the PP in the US? Link to source?

Edit: NVM, scrolled up and saw your other post. I'm not holding a light to hope for that happening. It would be nice just to see pricing and get a brochure up or something. Anything. Toyota is certainly waiting until the last second on this one.

Again I think it has something to do with Scion again for us. It's already priced in Japan and I believe Europe. We'll get more info soon. We'll see in there mean time if an Opportunity comes up for Subaru then definitely it's good to grab a BRZ.

Do you really think a car salesman has the best info out there? I used to work at GM corporate, most of these car salesman bounce from job to job within a few months... very few have credibility. These guys go on their own system and don't see an option and say, sorry can't do it.

Dealers get allocations with cars like this. If their allocations are not available they can't place the order. If the allocation doesn't come available until later, they can't place the order. The doesn't mean the car won't come available at any time in the near future. These guys just have no idea and aren't willing to put in the effort to find out for you.

All that said, there is such a thing as a great car salesman. Find one, stick with them, and they will take care of you.

The salesman in question is a regular member here who has not lead us astray before. At this point in time his system will not accept orders for PP and we can take that as fact not incompetence.

If you have some weird and wonderful inside track that you can order now then that is great but since everybody doesn't have an "unnamed source" to fall back on.

I also highly doubt that all dealers are clambering to sell their cars for under invoice at this point. Nobody has any clue how well these facelifts will sell so it is pretty premature to say the dealers will be giving them away. As far as the only people buying them are on this thread goes that is a plain silly comment. This forum represents about 5% of the owners and that is hardly a majority.

This is actually pretty easy. The best place to shop for a car is from your living room via email. Especially if you are new, it's best to avoid the dealership and avoid direct conversation. They have all kinds of games that you may not even realize they are playing to pressure you.

If you email them, then you have the upper hand. You can leave/ignore them at any time and they can't do anything about it. You can accept an offer from one of a dozen other dealers at any time and they know that and can't do anything about it. Look on a site like edmunds.com and find the invoice price. Understand that invoice is not what they really pay for the car. They get holdbacks and other incentives so they are still making money at invoice price. Most dealerships make the majority of their money on service anyway and don't even care if they make a profit on a new car as long as you take it there to service. Take the invoice price and email the dealer saying you will buy the car 'take it or leave it' at that price. You don't need to prove anything as the truth is invoice price is fine for any dealer on any car. They may so no, but so what? Let them know that if they say yes, then they have an easy sales you will put a deposit/buy right away. Use the advantage of the assumed slow receipt of emails and wait until you hear back from most/all of the dealers you emailed. Sometimes one will undercut the others. You can either accept that or use that to get an even better price from another dealer. I tend to pick who I like best and say I want to use them, but they have to match the best price (this is very fair to do and a good salesman will appreciate that you give them the opportunity).

It is the salesman's job to get as much money from you as they think feasible and you can't fault them for that. Invoice price is always a fair price to pay for a car and allows them some, but not enormous, profit. Some salesman will hold out for the uninformed grandma who will pay $2k over sticker and if you find one of those just walk away.

If you have any further questions or others do on buying cars feel free to pm me.

Credibility:
I used to work at GM corporate, was a top ranking fortune 500 b2b salesman and investment banker on wall st for the majority of my career, and this BRZ is the 41st car I've bought in my life. Never paid over invoice.
