Both cars are relative the same power-wise. Miata will all beat any coupe with the same performance because of its open top feel. You feel adrenaline driving 60mph.

when people ask me if im going to boost my stock engine to make more power, i always just tell them that i actually like the power it has (or lack of, depending on who you are), and that i have a blast driving it hard and can still get in trouble if i wanted to act stupid. with a high-hp car, i can get in trouble even if im not being stupid lol

Yep, I tried to get my FR-S to "fly" ...... but it just wouldn't lift off, I reckon the top made it too heavy......

I think the Miata is the prettier car. It also performs better. Maybe a chip and keeping the revs up makes the Fiat run faster on a track, but you'd probably need a serious tune with anti-lag. Still, the Miata is much purer. I think it's more attractive and far less garish, too. Neither's on my radar, though. I'm really looking forward to the coming crop of EVs from BMW and Porsche. If there was a 911 with a <3.0 0-60 and 200 miles range for less than $120k, I'd buy it, or at least lease it.

sadly, its because the twins are popular and people like to hate popular things.
when they eventually go out of production and the vast majority of the younger fanbase move on to the next hot item, the twins will eventually end up a relatively saught after classic. People wont care that the cars slow, just like people of today dont really care that the AE86 is slow. Besides, when you hit up youtube and you see people scrapping in the comments section over whos car is faster, better or most expensive, take comfort in knowing that most of the people commenting don't even have a drivers license yet, let alone a car, and are either regurgitating what they heard someone else say, assuming because they unlocked the car in forza/gran turismo that theyre now knowledgable on it, or know someone/have relatives who own or owned a variation of the one theyre talking about. |

I currently have a zzw30 and like it, but dont love it the same as the FRS. I love the lightness but it feels sketchy on backroads because of it. I'm trying to figure out if aero and suspension will solve the problem. Then its a matter of 2zz or turbo for the hell of it. Though I honestly think a turbo 1zz would be terrifying to drive.

There are many among us that really appreciate cars that were designed with enthusiasts in mind, that would\could not spend Lotus $$$$.Whenever the conversation turns to "lightness", the Lotus is what comes to mind for me. I have driven on street and road course; Mustang 4 cyl turbo, Miata's (NA and SC), RX7 NA and turbo. I recently finished an 05 RX8 build (coming from a SC 220 RWHP Miata) and liked the car, then I had a 5 mile limp mode after seeing the BRZ the same morning, now I'm in a 2013 WRB BRZ Limited and could not be happier. |

ND Owner and Previous 86 Owner here.
Still have alot of love for these cars. I purchased an ND seeking what my previous 86 offered me. I traded in brand new IS350 F Sport not even owning it for a full year. (AUTO FKN BLOWS) The ND is definitley quicker than the FRS/BRZ. The reason? Short gear ratios and TORQUE. This car scales at less than 2300lbs so lightness is also a factor too. The Miata is basically an FRS with no rear seats, more torque and can go topless in a matter of seconds. I'm hoping the second generation 86/BRZ has an increase in power. The car needs at least 240hp to make it feel quick(er). |
