I found someone to do the seals - More or less $1000 to have them done. There goes the racing budget for the year. I've called several dealers who won't touch the car with any performance parts on it. I thought about taking the car back to stock but Dave indicated that most dealers would check to see if the car had been tuned which I guess they can tell even if you remove the tune. There is a Toyota TSB out on this issue - in which the solution was to reflash the car to reduce timing in certain areas of the revband to reduce heat and make the seals last longer.
My other option was to do it myself which I probably could, but since the parts were $500 + $100 for the tool to install the seals, $400 for the install with a 2 year 24k warranty seems reasonable. That's getting it done at a Toyota specialist in Denver. Hopefully the car will be done sometime next week if the parts aren't on backorder. I also ordered a set of plugs to be sure they weren't damaged by the broken seals. Will you be posting video from Sunday? I'd be interested to watch our runs. Thanks again. For $1000 I would pay someone to do it too, not sure it would be worth the time spent especially when parts are that much.
Yep, working on getting videos up now. I will throw yours up on my personal youtube, sadly the damn thing didn't start recording for your best 3rd run Auto triggers have been flaky lately with the GoPro, might have to do manual start/stop from now on.

The car is back in action... In the end, due to the shop not being able to get the direct injection seals on the old injectors, I opted to just replace all of the injectors. One of the seals was completely missing. I also replaced the spark plugs just to be sure there was no sign of the motor running lean - there was not.
I typically use Torco's Accelerator octane booster which I have heard turns the plugs orange - I can confirm it does. As I noted earlier, the car is for sale. I will get a post up on this forum tomorrow now that I have the car back - $25,500. Last edited by Silverspeed; 08-19-2016 at 12:53 AM. Reason: Spelling |
