After recently sitting in an FRS I walked away with the sentiment "It's small, but the interior is quite roomy." I attribute this to better (modern) packaging and efficient use of space. I'm a larger build and was worried it would be too cramped. The seat bolsters are definitely snug, but there is ample room in general. I was very pleasantly surprised.

I agree that it's small on the outside and reasonably roomy inside.

I liked the OP's comments about long-time Miata ownership. I also had a Miata for years and as many know it's an incredibly fun car to drive. The Miata manual transmission is a work of art, with possibly the S2k as being in the same league or better. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the shift action is in the Toyobaru!

That's nothing..

Look at the Mustang and Camaro, they're twice the size of the 70's

Then there is the large Charger

I guess debating what's small is kind of like debating what tastes good. It's a matter of opinion. I've owned cars up to the size of a Pontiac G8, so my frame of reference isn't just the Miata. The best measure of size to me is how much space it takes up in the garage. While the car is certain low and not all that long, it does seem wide and takes up a decent footprint.

I do think they got the size right, it just doesn't strike me a small. The Fiat 500, a Mini Cooper, or a CR-Z seem small.

Handy size comparo to a Mini. It's a little longer, but is 5 inches or so shorter.
