I had. I'm guessing you didn't read the whole post and just read the "TL;DR"

The thing that I dont quite understand is.... TOYOTA FIXED IT, and now they're not standing behind their warranty repair. What a cluster fuck.

Do you have the paperwork for when the engine was replaced? If so read it and there should be something about the engine replacement warranty.

Yeah, I had called the Toyota where they first replaced the engine and they told me there was a 1 year warranty on it (which on the day I took the car to the dealership it was still under the year) but they aren't even paying attention to that.

So next question:
Why did you not take it back where you bought it from the beginning?

It was replaced from Toyota of Illinois last year (I'm in California) so I couldn't take it there. And the dealership where I bought it from, at the time they had no service center there. They told me for any issues, take it to any Scion/Toyota dealership. But after I took it to Toyota, now I find out they merged with Mitsubishi and have a service center there but either way, since Toyota dealership tore the engine apart, would have to pay the $1,000 for that labor if I want to move it.

Thanks. That makes sense. It just seems the dealer you bought it from may be a bit more willing to work with you.

Yeah, if I knew they had their service center then I would have sent it there from the beginning but I wasn't aware of it. Either way though... Toyota can't even tell me what happened that caused this to my engine... I don't think they should deny warranty if they can't even tell me what happened to the engine exactly

That's what they told you, but what does the paperwork you signed say?

What sort of warranty? What does the paperwork say? Limited, prorated, parts only, Full?

It's not unusual to have to pay up front for the engine breakdown so they can figure out what happened. That money should be refunded once they find the issue. They have no magical way to figure out the problem and want to cover their butts in case it turns out you did void your warranty somehow. If you are confident you are blameless, pay the $1000 and let them find the problem.

Read the warranty paperwork over.

The extended warranty had a rep go to the dealership where my engine was and look at it to decide whether or not they would cover it. After investigation they found that it should be covered, but by Toyota. They said that it all indicates to it not being my fault but since it's still under Toyota's Powertrain warranty, they can't pay for it. Apparently their terms say that they step in once my original factory warranty expires. (I wasn't made aware of this part at the time of purchase though. Dealership told me my extended warranty will cover any issues.)

So the extended warrantee people are telling you Toyota should pay and Toyota is telling you they are not responsible?? See if they will each split the cost. If not, get it fixed and take them both to court to get your money back!

Yup. That's exactly what's happening. I'll wait for the response from them by Friday and then see what to do from there

All in all a warrantied engine failed. You have a warranty. Whomever it says is responsible at the time of the warranty is who is responsible now. Contact the legal department at the extended warranty issuer corporate HQ. This is fraud if you paid for a warranty that isn't being honored. You are the customer. Keep on them.
