So, every weekend off. It's almost like having a normal life.

Speaking of Sarnia. Heavily considering moving there. My job is in demand, houses are cheap as heck. The guy who is working with us recently bought a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 2000sqft place for 190k!!!!

Ya Sarnia isn't to bad at all and your skill set would most certainly be in demand there. You could get on one of the companies and be an actual 9 to 5er.

@Tcoat yeah, only thing I don't like about it, and this may only be a contractor thing, is that it's so hard to actually get work done between needing 3 or 4 permits to get onto some sites (there goes 2 hours of your day), crazy safety requirements (specifically for the job I do, which most people in oil and gas know nothing about, and people fear the unknown) and the general annoyance of trying to navigate massive plants that you've never been in before.

Adding to that, you need to wear spoggles (foam lined safety glasses). Which are the absolute most uncomfortable things I've ever worn.

But, to put up with all that and make $40ish an hour? Entirely worth it.

We talked about this before and as much as you may disagree those rules exist for a reason and actually save lives and body parts. I can list the stats that prove it.
I have turned down several jobs there though because even though the chem industry pays slightly better than the auto when the shit hits the fan it really hits the fan and I do not want to be the guy trying to gather up the resulting spray.

To put up with all that and come out the other end in good shape? Entirely worth it.

My lung function is rated at about 2x my age... who knows exactly why, but I've certainly had exposure to chemicals in the air that aren't good. I still have to remind myself to go get a face mask when I clean my wheels or work in the woodshop - any extra dust like that kicks me into being badly sick for a few weeks.

Nothing's less fun than having to give up strenuous activity because you can't breathe... you know, anything that gets your heart rate up...

For me, they only became the pretty good old days after many years of reflection. The best days are right now. I don't think I would appreciate the mundane days of today nearly as much as I do if I didn't have the lessons and memories of the struggles from my youth.

I'm 38, year wise (lol). I wish someone would have told me the good days were nearing their end, instead of finding out once they're gone, and there's nothing I can do about it anymore

I have zero friends, zero potential on the horizon for them, and so many roadblocks (not barriers) to finding someone to even try to be friends with. So I act silly on a forum, hiding the real me, just to be "around" other people.

Random enough? Lol

Don't worry, most people have a lot longer than 38!

But YES! Start living! Most of the time you don't know if it's your last day! Enjoy that shit!

If I could have had this knowledge, I wouldn't have wasted time with a girlfriend through high school and college. Woulda been out with the boys, living it up and not needing to worry about a girl who was worried I wouldn't be coming back to home to her. Would have said yes to doing a lot more than I did, etc.

Right now things are pretty cool though. Just living it up... Differently now.

That's a good point, no one lives forever, anyway could be the last one.

The best day of my life was the day I met you, baby. It's been all downhill since.

Life is now. The days, good and bad, are now. Live in the present. Plan for the future.
