Well, Ashikabi, I don't have much to add to what has already been said.

I was born & raised in Ohio.

Lived 2 years in Germany.

Lived 10 years in California.

Lived 7 years in Connecticut.

Lived 7 years in Missouri.

We have lived here in Washington for 24 years.

We have decided to retire here, in Puyallup, WA - about 50 miles South of Seattle).

I wouldn't want to live any place else (full time).

The mountains are 2 hours away, for scenic roads, hiking and snow sports.

The Ocean is 2 hours away for scenic drives, hiking, fishing and beach stuff.

Seattle is 1 hour away, for big city stuff.

The climate is moderate (seldom gets real hot or real cold).

Employment opportunities are good.

Cost of living is reasonable.

Generally, either Washington or Oregon is a good place to live......

Paging @slyphen since he works with CNC machining at his work place. Perhaps he can help you out with potential job reference if you decide to move here? (He's also my car bud)

Hopefully this helps.
There is more than just Boeing out here. few hundred Boeing suppliers are out here as well, and more than half of them machine shops or composite fabricators. One of my company's division may have position open for CNC operator, check out B/E Aerospace FSI in Everett.

Yeah, I'm sort of learning from this thread that a lot of the best posters are from that area. Starting to second guess buying a house in PA, and should be a good sign for Ashikabi.

Edit: Best posters by my personal criteria, which I promise isn't meant as an insult.

Figured that out about my first week here. There are far more of them from that region I just used the most frequent.
I just consider the PNW crowd as fellow Canadians most of the time anyway.

When it rains or snows, I will be honest its like some of the drivers in washington have never seen it before. Even though they live here. Scares me how many people are afraid of driving in the rain or snow. Different kind of crippling, like steve said.

Also, I'm fairly certain I recently read that Seattle is now one of the top 10 worst cities for traffic.

Yep, that was a looong 7 years ......

However, I did pick up a good woman there (became the present mrs humfrz).

Caught her falling off a bar stool in Saint Louis, bought her a dress and some shoes, she cleaned up pretty good and turned out to be a good wife .....

Ok, so here's the real deal with PNW snow. It's infrequent and doesn't last very long at lower altitude. We don't use salt, not the traditional stuff at least. There are only a few plows so they only hit the main arteries. It doesn't matter where anyone earned their snow badge. When that shit gets packed down and freezes, it's downright treacherous.

Snow:
Yes it does, once in a while. Mosty 40-50 all winter.
None at all last winter in the 0-500ft regions. Once you start gaining altitude it's more likely to stick around for a couple hours. Then it melts.
Last real freeze we had was about 10 years ago. Took about 2 1/2 weeks to thaw out.
Only about 6 inches of crusty glazed snow, but the residential side roads were black ice with ridges from tire tracks in slush during the day that froze overnight.
Seattle metro area does not have or maintain equipment to cope with heavy snowfall so everything falls apart if that happens.
It's so rare that we just cope, knowing that it will go away soon.

Most I can remember is about 15 inches over Thanksgiving decades ago. That melted in a couple weeks too.
Only time I remember freezing rain was once back in the 90s. Broke a lot of trees, but has not repeated.

Staying in the lower elevations would be best for mobility most of the time.
Kitsap County and Key Peninsula have some nice property across the bridge from Tacoma that's still moderately affordable.

Yes, it rains. Today it's 68 deg. at 10:45 and not a cloud in the sky. Think I need to go for a drive.
