Yeah previous owner did God knows what to the engine and the new owner is stuck paying the bill. This is sort of the worst case scenario in buying a used car - the engine has internal damage.

Hoping this works out for you OP.

Again, just stating what you need to do should you choose lemon law. CA law requires you to use their arbitration method.

Reason they're not that big of a difference is because the repairing uses a lot more labor.

Note: the prices include the $1,000 fee for tearing the engine open
Well...... poooo.........

If you have the car financed, how much do you owe on it ..... ??

It cab be a used engine. When they told me the price to get a different engine into my car he said "the engine we have lined up for yours only has 3,000 miles on it."

Well I've sat in my FR-S before and I know the fuel pump runs while off every once in a while. I was sitting in my car once and heard a noise towards the back of the car and so I looked up the issue and I read that the fuel pump does these "leak checks" of some sort and that's the noise I heard. So it's possible that during that time, it leaked out. Or well that's my theory, correct me if I'm wrong

Yeah I know for a fact he had aftermarket parts after he got the engine replacement because when he went in for something else around 6,000 miles after getting the replacement engine, notes say "Customer advised that Toyota requires aftermarket installations to be disconnected." Not sure if it was a CAI but he had some sort of aftermarket parts

Yeah they keep telling me that "Toyota should be covering it" but don't want to help

OK, so:

You owe $19,000.

If it ran, it would be worth roughly $14,000.

If you had the engine repaired, it would cost $5,200.

If you had the engine replaced it would cost $7,300.

If you sold it "as is" to someone who is looking for a body to put a V-8 into, it may be worth maybe worth $7000.

OK, someone take this on in ....... it's ma nap time .........ZZZZZZZZZZ

Just went back in to the dealership since they had told me that they were waiting on a call from Toyota and told me to go in today.

Apparently they never were waiting for a phone call from Toyota and they had nothing new to tell me. The service manager wasn't wanting to look into the first issue I had (the fuel injector) but so I told him that when the Toyota rep came and looked at the engine, he said it wad hydrolocked but there was no coolant in the engine. So I told him that it was conrradicting himself if he claimed hydrolock but there wasn't any coolant in there.

The manager then went on to ask me how I even knew what hydrolock meant and asked if I had been looking this up online and then the service advisor that has been helping me from the start (the only one I feel actually wants to help) stepped in saying that it was first my extended warranty that told me that and that the other time I went and talked to the technician, the technician told me the same thing. That it seemed like hydrolock but there was no coolant in there or anything to obstruct the engine rod and cause it to bend.

So after he said that, the service manager agreed to give Toyota a call and have a rep come by again.

5 minutes after leaving the dealership, the service advisor called me saying that the Toyota rep will be here Tuesday Morning at 10 AM and that I would be able to go in at that time and talk to the rep directly and tell him my concerns.

This seems to be going full circle with no real change from the original post.

Have you considered that with 19K in financing owed, you ought to consider some other options? Get an independent mechanic to install a low-mile wrecker engine from an FR-S or BRZ?

How about investing $200 in consulting a lawyer?

You're already so upside-down in this thing, you might as well get it fixed and drive it for as long as it will last.

Also the spark plug and coil pack have to fail simultaniously

If an injector fails stuck open while the engine is not turning (like during the 'leak test' mentioned above), then the cylinder could fill enough with fuel to hydrolock the next time that it gets cranked.

Since he drove it home & turned it off, then heard the noise the next time he cranked it, it could have been full of fuel before he cranked it to start.

A cylinder that flooded wouldnt fire even if the plug and coil were working perfectly.
