What did you use? Dr. Colorchip? I have a couple I need to touch up and wanted something relatively easy/functional.

I have the same on mine and didn't notice any audible difference.

Finally made the jump to E85. A number of Sheetz in our area are selling it, so for the vast majority of my driving, finding it shouldn't be an issue. I'm going to compose a list with addresses and leave it in the car, just in case, hah.

So far, I'm driving it pretty easy to let the tune learn, but there's noticeably more power and so far I'm getting about 30mpg. Cost $17.xx to fill the tank.

@pinski

I'm really interested to see if you continue getting such excellent fuel mileage from E85.

Out of curiosity, how are you gauging you mpg? When I switched, I noticed a drop from ~31 mpg to ~25 mpg.

Washed the dead bugs off of it then took it out to kill some more with reckless abandonment.

Flipped it over 5000 miles with a 100 miles on fresh fluids. Running quieter with 5W-30. The torsen is has less judder in that first mile. Still not committed to subaru trans oil. Shifting is fine but the synchro are vocal in steady state driving. I have motul on hand but I wanted to see the characteristics of a dealer fluid change.

I doubt it very seriously will stay up that high. I followed the awesome guide by @steve99 and am only about 60-70 miles in now and have been taking it pretty easy. After another day or two I'll resume driving like normal and that will probably be about a half tank burned at that point.

Since I haven't filled up again, I don't know the true economy and have to rely on the computer, which tends to be optimistic. Once I can fill it, I can do the math and see exactly what it used. Once I start driving normally, I do expect mid-20s like you.

Something else to note about the onboard computer is that it won't compensate for the extra amount of fuel the injectors are flowing for E85, unless you do it yourself. (or if you get a time with someone who has done it already. Iirc the ots maps from shiv do not)

Plus given how much variance the E85 has from station to station around here, I'm convinced that the most accurate method is to take the miles driven and divide by gallons filled, and to try and only use the same pump every time, filling the same way.

But it's worth it to switch, if that's the biggest issue.

Hell, even with regular gas, the onboard is optimistic by 2-3 mpg for me on 93.

If the tune does not correct the dash dispaly the display will read about 30% optimistic on E85, OFT tunes dont correct the display, but other tunes may not either.

It an easy fix if you have access to the tune .

Gaah that's so unfair, I have 3 sheetz within 30 miles of me and neither one of them have e85

Enjoy that corn fuel man!
